XP Pro and MCE
So I got my new Inspiron E1505 about 3 weeks ago and I decided to upgrade the OS to XP Pro instead of MCE because thats what my college recommended. However, I was using one of my friends computers that has MCE and now I want to get it to use instead of the Dell Media Experience. Is it possible to have Dell send me an XP Media Center install disk even though I had originally got XP Pro with my laptop?

microsoft states that MC edition is only for oem computers, eg you cannot buy it on disc however i have found this http://www.playtech.co.nz/product.php?action=showdetail&id=360 so i guess one can buy it on cd

But I know that when I ordered the Inspiron there was the check box to get the OS reinstall disk, and I chose XP Pro because I ordered the laptop with the pro edition. However, I know there was an option for a Media Center reinstall cd, so I was wondering if it was possible to call up dell and have them send that.
- More than likely, they won't send you a MCE disc. You can only get the disc for the operating system that you have. The computer is set up for XP Pro. The CD-Key is for XP Pro. Microsoft probably would restrict them from sending the disc to you as well. It is worth a try, but I doubt it.

You pose an interesting question. It appears you ordered the more expensive o/s (XP Pro) and backup media, and now you wish the backup media for the cheaper MCE 2005.
I would suggest you contact Dell via the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of this page, and use 'chat' or 'email' to make your request.
