Hi! I recently upgraded to Vista Ultimate from XP Pro. I seem to have the file BOOTSECT.BAK in the root of C: along with the hidden BOOT folder. From my knowledge this is a backup of XP's boot stuff. I formatted the whole drive from XP's recovery console, and once from VIsta's too to try this, but for some reason Vista always makes a backup of my previous XP thing with BOOTSECT.BAK etc. even though I've formatted and deleted all partitions etc. and it's getting annoying. I know bootsect.bak can be deleted but I don't want the BOOT folder etc. on my PC. I assume that formatting won't remove the MBR so I have 3 questions: 1) If i LLF (low level format) the drive, will it remove the MBR? 2) If 1 is yes, will putting Vista back on not create the backups in it's root anymore as there is nothing there? 3) Do i use killdisk or do I use the manufacturers way of doing it. I got a Deimension 9200 so I don't know the HDD manufacturer... Thank you very much for any assistance you can give me! :)
