Using Dell XPS 15 9560 without battery

Hi,

I have a Dell XPS 15 9560 Windows 10 laptop. Last year I had issues with my battery. It just wouldn't charge. Finally, my laptop itself stopped working and wouldn't switch on even if it was connected to AC power. I finally removed my battery and my laptop now works fine with AC adapter. I have two questions:

  1. Do I need to buy a new battery? Like I mostly use the laptop at home and don't need it to be portable. Will not having impact my laptop negatively?
  2. Another major issue is my fan seems to be on overdrive and makes too much noise after I removed the battery. And my laptop feels hot too. I changed the setting on dell power manager, the Thermal management to 'Quite' but every time I restart my laptop it goes back to 'optimized' setting. Do I need to change any other settings to use the laptop without battery?

Side Note: Little disappointed that my I started having battery issues after barely 2 years. I have another dell Inspiron laptop and it only works as a desktop too. What is it with Dell batteries?

you can run your laptop without the battery without issue. if the fan noise is overbearing without the battery then put the battery back in (assuming it's not swollen) but leave it disconnected.

So just an update... Dell doesn't have new replacement battery and will sell me a refurbished battery with only 90 days warranty for $140. Ugh!

Upon researching like crazy, I just came about your message and it is exactly the same problem (same exact pc as well) I’m dealing with right now. I ordered a new battery and wanted to see if that had fixed your problem.

I have had the same problem! It’s ridiculous! I only had the computer for two years. Battery swollen and destroyed the area and now can’t even use any battery. It only works with the charger. I spent $1000 with a Computer guy to fix it up! Now the computer is slow too!
