Aurora 15 Info Leaked

It appears the R15 should release shortly. It will now include a 240mm AIO, 13th Gen Intel CPU's along with Nvidia's 4xxx series GPU's. The side clear glass is now smaller with vents on the lower half of the glass area. The solid panel now has vents to pull in air. The rest of the system is should still be pretty much the same.

4080 is not out for retail yet, so I am assuming it's the same for OEM.

There are also 2 versions of the 4080 this time around, with 2 different power requirements. this will be confusing for the unassuming buyer, since they will both be called RTX 4080.

Its not like Dell pulls their designs out of thin air.  Check out these series of Alienware videos, it shows how closely Dell collaborates with Intel.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4XFnJpw2Dg

It's more rewarding to build your own.  I think most know Dell makes nerfed systems now and can't upgrade them

Just upgraded the 3700X to a 5900X. It is glorious, even on air cooling. Splurged a bit and also got a set of gaming headphones to go with it.

You can upgrade them, but it's touch n go as to how much you can do to it.

Once at 13900K is available I'll test it in the R13.  You can upgrade from a 12700K to a 12900K.  Upgrade from a 3060 to a 3090, and so on.  RAM wise, you can put some nice pretty RGB ram in there, but you're doing it for aesthetics only and not for any performance increase (unless you were able to get one of those upgraded R13's that no one has even seen mentioned as a XMP enabled buy).

I don't think the 13900K will work in the R13. I bet it's not supported.

I think we both know how this is going to go, lol.

I truly hope they have XMP support on the R15. If they don't than they have not been reading this board and listening to the feedback of owners, which is very different than feedback from potential buyers.

Even if it is only a small amount versus total sales, they matter and they are just as entitled to be satisfied with their purchase(s) as anybody else.

I'm surprised the new Raptor Lake i9-13900K appears to use the same Z690 chip set as the previous generation CPU.

This is not uncommon. I figured they would because they already introduced PCIe 5 on that chipset and DDR5.

That being said in order for it to work you would need a BIOS  microcode update.

Based on the previous generations of Alienware's, I would say that is not going to happen.

The R10 for example you cannot upgrade the BIOS microcode on a Ryzen 3000 system to support a Ryzen 5000. It's "not supported".

I don't see this being any different. Looks like you will need to purchase a complete new system if you want Raptor Lake.

Hopefully I am completely wrong and you can just pop in a new CPU on the R13 and away you go.

The big slap in the face is Dell selling a top product and it performs like a middle of line product.   Nothing special and misleading.  The 12900k performs well below what it's advertised at and just forget about overclocking.  If a product fails your only option is to go back to Dell.  So just treat their products as disposable imo.

I think getting back to Tick-Tock strategy is a good idea.

But even then, I think the Chipset was only changed every-other-time.

I think they missed a trick with side panel, you could give the machine clean and not dirty air direct to the cpu with some moulding, instead they have just cut holes in it for the GPU and from my experience with the R13 and adding 3 120mm fans on my side case, the GPU will definitely . TOS76>dirty air from the back of the chassis. They could of added another layer of plastic to the side panel so any extra air sucked in from the GPU was sucked in from the front of the machine, not the rear which is dirty air. A mould inside to the clear panel could give clean air straight the CPU, all the money spent on external looks and with an obvious opportunity with that side panel to do something different, they have just stuck holes in it.

The fancy rear optional grill should direct heat vertically away from the machine, heat rises, its not rocket science.

Complete shoot and miss by Dell to bring something new to the table,

Depends on the board.

If it's a new board with same chipset, maybe. If it' the same board with new BIOS, no.

It is backwards compatible but has the updated Z790 chip set.

Very unlikely Dell will allow the R13 to support the 13th Gen anything...  With RAM, GFX cards and the like already being an issue, I am quite sure Dell will ensure its Nerfed....   Dell seem to work on the "pay to win" strategy..   lock down everything, force you to upgrade to the latest Aurora if you want an upgrade.  Pretty poor strategy.  I just love my MSI SFF setup now, I can just swap the 12900KF out for a 13900KF when I'm ready.  The bios already supports it which is just fabulous

It further proves why I will never buy another Dell.

Keep the same form factor as the last incarnation and change the plastic around it instead, so they get less of a view this time around of the cheap LED lighting.

You can shove in what cooling solution you want but the basic metal box was never designed to take what Dell threw at in the R13 and cutting a few holes in the plastic and a 240MM radiator wont solve it for the R15.

As ever with Dell it will be locked to the generation of CPU's and GPU's it will be sold with.

If you get XMP and a CPU that runs at full throttle I will be amazed. Dell having to provide a compliant 1350W power supply will have to be paid for from somewhere.

Certainly R13 owners can forget a 240MM fan upgrade option. That is never going to happen.

Your buying a Dell nowadays, and nothing that comes close to a properly designed and funded Alienware product.
