Aurora R11, Windows 10 Pro

I believe you can do an in-place upgrade from win10 home to pro... You just need to buy a pro key from the Windows Store or other 3rd party vendor...

They offered Pro version on Ryzen Edition R10... Strangely though, if opting for the 3950x which is the top beast of the Ryzen 3000 series only Windows Home was available... I got the 3800x and the option for Pro was available...

Interesting why Dell doesn’t offer that option on Alienware desktops but they do all Alienware laptops and other non Alienware PCs.

Seems strange.

Every other vendor I’ve considered offers Win 10 Pro as an option.

Comes as an option on Aurora R11 Configuration 4, 5, and 6.  Doesn't look like it's offered on the first 3 configurations listed.

Now I see. It’s available on the i9 configs. Plus it’s an additional $93 for Win10 Pro. That’s much more than other vendors I’ve seen when you chose pro vs home.

Why would they limit it to the i9?

To me that’s a deal breaker. I don’t need an i9 or the added cost. I wanted the i7.

This makes me want to look elsewhere for my next gaming system.

I need Pro since I’ll also use that same system for non-gaming activities. I’ve always had the Pro version of Windows.

i assume there’s nothing inherent in the 10th gen i5 or i7 to prevent Win 10 Pro. It just seems to be Dell’s choice. True ?

You can get Win 10 Pro for $39.99 until the end of June through PC World.

I'd defiantly feel better buying from them than eBay, but they are still third party keys you don't know the source - volume licensing deal? etc. (grey market).  From the link, it's not coming direct from Microsoft.

Microsoft offers Office at low/no cost directly through Microsoft's HUP, which may be available to you if your employer has a contract with msft.  

Probably a grey market license at that rate, if you do buy it, I'd suggest using it immediately. 

Many keys are simply from outlets that buy more than they can use.

Think that a company like Dell or HP likely buys keys in the millions.  Companies may buy 10,000 seats and have 8,000 employees.  You never know the incentives corporate accounts may receive to buy the next breakpoint.  It could be cloud services as a bundle, it could be going to Office 365 instead of the “boxed” version.  Bundle that with a can’t be beat Windows license key.

Meanwhile there are hundreds of companies, schools, organizations that have no need for all the keys they own due to the above.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if there were upwards of 1,000,000 keys available at any given time that were 100% legit on the aftermarket.

Agreed. Any idea why Dell wouldn’t allow an R11 with a processor other than an i9 to be configured with Win10 Pro.?

I haven’t seen other vendors do this.

I have an i9 R11 coming I hope this Friday.  Ordered on May 21st.  No pro option was offered

If you look in the website now you’ll see 6 configurations of R11, for which you start and configure changes.

The three most expensive configurations allow Pro as an option. The three lower priced configs do not.

It doesn’t seem like there is any technical reason to not allow it.
