Aurora R12, GPU upgrade within allowed dimensions?
Alienware Aurora R12
Thank you in advance for your advice.
I have an Aurora R12 which is currently fitted with an NVIDIA 3070. Regrettably the 3070 does not provide sufficient VRAM to meet my needs and I am hoping to replace it with something more powerful. At this point, this seems to be the only limiter on my computer and so I am reluctant to replace the computer in its entirety for this issue alone.
I am aware of the very tight spacing in the Aurora R12's case and so I would like some advice as to what GPUs I can swap the 3070 for within the allowed dimensions. My initial research has told me that swapping cases all together to one that doesn't have the same size constraints is possible, but not advisable.

Are these available for purchase from Dell as stand alone units? A quick look online hasn't shown anywhere where I can pick one up.

The limiting factor is usually the card length: 267 mm OEM card specifications
Both the 3080 and 3090 OEM dimensions are the same: Length: 267mm, Height: 114mm, Width: 50mm
If you go to Newegg, you can sort the video card list by card length.
However, be aware of power requirements and because of the older age, pricing for RTX 3000 generation cards new. Your only "simple" options are the 3080 and 3090 cards, but the new price might not make it worth it.
Also check your power supply cables, as you will need 2 x PCI-s 8 PIN connectors and sometimes Dell does not include the second cable if your video card only requires 1.

Thank you very much for your help. I have a 1000W power supply and it looks like I've got two cables although both the one that's in use and the one that's cable tied with it but not in use are in a six-plus-two configuration-- unsure if that's of any significance.
If the limiting factor is usually card length, does that mean that I shouldn't have an issue fitting a 4070? MSI offers a variation of that (the Ventus 2X) that is only 242mm?

nVidia RTX 4070 Founders Edition is only 244mm long and should fit nicely. If you were willing to put it on water, pretty much any graphics card would work, as they are much smaller when water blocked.
