Aurora R13, 1350W power supply?

Can the 1350W power supply be used in an Aurora R13?

If you are talking about the R15 PSU, no.

I am not 100% sure yes or no.  You can physically plug a 12 pin Dell proprietary connector of 1350w into the 10 pin socket of R13, the last 2 pin hanging in air.  The socket is keyed so that you cannot plug in incorrectly (unless one is a brute).  The essential operation pins of psu of PS_ON and PWR_OK are already included in the first 8 pin(therefore one can use Dell 8 pin 460w psu of XPS 8950 to power on R13). The extra 4 pins are 100% 12V power/Gnd pairs Dell designed for high power cpu need.  Presumably the 1350w psu that has 12 pin would start R13 motherboard despite the extra 2 pins of psu not connected. But without user verification not 100% sure.  Analogy to this off label use of psu is to install Dell 750/1000w 10 pin psu in Optiplex 7000 that has 8+4+4 pin motherboard.

otoh even for a dell rtx 4090, one does not really need 1350w psu. The 1000w psu in R13 is enough.

I was under the assumption the new PSU does not conform to the ATX standard and instead uses OEM wiring.

I think I would not want to try it and instead pick an OEM for the R13, or a known aftermarket one. Aftermarket likely being the best option as far as any future upgrades.

1,000 Watts should be enough for anything below a 4090.

Re: I was under the assumption the new PSU does not conform to the ATX standard and instead uses OEM wiring.

Neither 1000w and 1350w psu conform to ATX standard.  Both use new Dell slim form factor.  1000w: 10+4+4 white MB, 2x (8 pin and 6+2 pin) PCIe black, 1350w: 12+4+4+4 white MB, 2x (8 pin and 6+2 pin) PCIe black.

1000w 10 pin does not conform to ATX12VO.

1350w 12 pin = 10 pin + 2 extra pin 12V/Gnd.

No known adapter for Dell 10 pin. Obligatory to use Dell psu at this point.

Just Tested! Worked 100%. The 12pin can work with the 10pin on the motherboard.IMG_1843.jpegIMG_1842.jpeg

Nice!!  But now you also lost a few more mm for max gpu length.  A founders edition should still barely fit though if you remove the shroud and increase bottom fan speed.  I think I am leaning just going with a new build.

How many times does 12 go into 10? How many watts do you think you are actually getting with 2 pins dangling?

Update for the GPU. The MSI 4090 suprim liquid fits perfectly in the current power setup. The 4090 FE is too large for the R13, the cooling is a problem. IMG_1884.jpegIMG_1882.jpegIMG_1883.jpeg

I'm not quite sure, but with the 4090 installed, everything works just fine for now. With the max setting for most games, the temperature of the GPU is around 50-55. For the CPU, the temperature is around 60-65.

nice demonstration.  those two extra pins not plugged in were designed to provide additional 12V power to motherboard if needed.

Very nice work!  My research was all around squishing in an air cooled 4090.  For me in the end it was much cheaper to sell my R13 and build a new very high end machine myself.

Apologies for the necro question on this but could you confirm what cables you used from the PSU into what appears to be the GPU 12VHPC adapter that comes with the card?

And would you be able to provide me with the part # for the 1350W PSU - I am trying to get it ordered through Dell.

Thank you

@feilingking hey bro I’ve been wanting to do this as well

is 750 watt ok to use for the suprim?

also was it hard to install the fans to the right side of the case?

Let me know when you get the chance

Thanks!
