Aurora R7, i5 8400, GTX 1060, upgrade 8GB ram

Hi All

want to share my experience and also get advice

I have aftermarket Aurora R7 i7 8700 with 16GB DDR4 (2x8GB MTA8ATF1G64AZ-2G6H1)

XMP has only disabled available in BIOS

not sure is this memory OEM or previous owner installed...

I plan to upgrade to 32Gb (2x16GB)

Without doing any investigation i went to Crucial website RAM compatibility filter and choose kit of BLS2K16G4D32AESB Ballistix Sport LT Gray 32GB Kit (2 x 16GB) DDR4-3200 UDIMM (new memory). New memory will not work on higher frequency - Bios is accessible, but Windows constantly crashes during boot.

See attached pictures of BIOS settings for not working new memory:20191227_221029.jpg20191227_221803.jpg

If i disable XMP memory setting - and RAM will run on 2400Mhz, then everything work splendid...

I will return the Crucial new memory back to retailer.

Question what is the fastest retail 2x16GB DDR4 compatible with Aurora R7?

e.g. will this set work on R7 https://www.kingston.com/dataSheets/HX430C15FB3K2_32.pdf?

or this https://www.corsair.com/ca/en/Categories/Products/Memory/Vengeance-PRO-RGB-Black/p/CMW32GX4M2Z2933C16#tab-tech-specs

your feedback is most appreciated

Per Dell it officially supports up to 2933 hyperX RAM.  I have 4 sticks of Kingston HyperX Fury 2933 and it's fully compatible.  I know others do too.  Some people have gotten it to post with faster RAM.  If you want faster, you just have to search this forum and see what worked for others.  The BIOS revision you're using also impacts supported RAM for some people, so you could try updating that if you haven't done so. The only caveat is 8gb x 4 = 32gb is not a supported configuration in the R7.
