Aurora R7, Stuck in Boot Loop, Cannot Re-Intall Windows from USB
Hi all. I'm super frustrated right now, and not knowing much about computers doesn't help.
I have an Aurora R7, which for the past few days has been stuck in a boot loop. It will try to start up but never makes it past the Alienware/spinning logo screen, then after a few off/ons, will go into the repair mode which also gets stuck. The only options I have on startup are F2 & F12. I've tried reading / updating BIOS settings which did nothing, I also was able to run a scan through SupportAssist, which told me everything was fine.
I decided to just try to re-download Windows 10, so I got it on a USB and attempted to boot from there. However, I'm given a "Selected boot device failed" message every time.
Seems like the PC is done for, but wanted to reach out and see if anyone has any ideas. Thanks!

That's my current issue, I have Win 10 installed on a usb, however, my PC gives me a "selected boot device failed" error whenever I try to boot from USB.

that basically means Windows fail to load. Dell just wrote some code to replace the standard Win 10 logo with the vendor logo, standard trick.
what you can try is download MS win 10 installation media tool to prepare a bootable USB key (create installation media) then attempt to boot from that USB to do a clean install on your pc, which will wipe old installation and all data.

I tried the F12 key, as well as changing the priority to USB in the BIOS settings, neither of these worked. It looks like I did download the ISO file (from here https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO), so maybe that's the issue? I'll try the Creation Tool next, thanks for your help!

You are using the 1 time boot menu (F12 key), select the USB, and it does not boot from the USB?
If that is the case, how exactly did you create the USB? It needs to be created so it is bootable, using the Windows Creation Tool linked above. Copying files or the ISO onto the USB will not work.

You need to use the creation tool to make a bootable USB. Your current issue is that the USB is not bootable.
If you follow the on screen prompts from the creation tool, it will guide you.

the last reply is correct. it is a common pitfall that people think copying the Win10.iso on a (bootable) usb is the method to install OS. No that is incorrect. It would not work. the Windows.iso needs to be burnt onto a DVD to make the dvd bootable, or follow the last reply suggestion to use MS tool to make a Win 10 installation usb properly.
PS a bootable usb drive containing .iso file plugged in PC would not be mounted by PC as a virtual installation disc. a dvd burnt using the .iso image would work.
otoh, if you double click a Windows 11.iso within Windows 10 environment, Win 10 automatically mounts the .iso as a virtual disc and can install Win 11 that way.
