Aurora R9, Fans speed up and go loud

Hi guys,

After years & years....& years, I finally got my 1st AW!

I'd delighted to finally own 1 but then when I start 'doing' stuff, my fans speed up and get loud.

Now if I was really pushing the system, fair enough but all I'm running is WoW and FM20.

A system this good should surely be able to deal with those game, in a ultra silent way.

Any suggestions on limiting the speed of the fans?

I'm really new to all this even though I've been using a PC for gaming for like 25 years.

Thanks in advance guys.

What I'm think is, finding out what motherboard I have, putting that into PC Part Picker with my processor and then looking for a compatible fan for my CPU.

Only issue is, I can't find out what MB I have....yes I really am that difficult.

@Anonymous Its not an issue mate, it was only £11 anyway

I would be prepared to go for the Corsair H60 AIO liquid but again its fitting it. I've never done that & will it fit?

I apologize for the complete lack of 'know how' and I do appreciate your time and effort.

@Wyer   yes I really am that difficult.

Sometimes these projects are a process. Sorry for providing misleading information on the CPU fan cooler.

If it turns out a compatible fan is nearly the cost of the Corsair H60 AIO liquid cooler, consider the latter.

@r72019   Thanks for that information. The Noctua may be sufficient, as @Wyer  has the i7-9700, which is 65 watt TDP. If the low profile fans are going for $75ish, then it makes more sense to go with AIO liquid cooling for the Aurora models, since they have the space for the radiator.

The VRM heatsink I am most familiar with looks like the one below, which is "notched" and will accommodate the Arctic Freezer.

So I bought the H60.

i don’t know how I can fit it as once I remove the top case fan, there seems to me a little cage type metal thing behind it. This it’s self can be removed but I can’t remove it due to the the top of hit being stuck behind the rail for the locking mechanism for the side of the case.

Maybe I’m making hard work out of a simple job?

The oem dell cpu air cooler baseplate fits, no need to remove the motherboard.  The corsair baseplate lines up with the Dell cooler too, so it would be another option if you want to swap it out.

Ok guys, I know we're all eager to usher @Wyer into our liquid cooling club but let's remember the most important piece first: baseplate.

@r72019 : I think you were in some discussion about baseplate and what fits, what doesn't. Care to elaborate more about that here?

Thanks @r72019 . As long as we don’t hear report of a sickening crack while tightening the mounting screws, we’re all good.

@GTS81  @r72019

Can you tell from the  @Wyer photos what the issue is with removing the top cage? Do you even have to remove that cage to get a rad and fan installed up there?

I don't see any reason why that cage cannot be removed. Here I show my setup before creating the sandwich.

IMG_7120.jpg

I removed the little screws on the cage (EDIT: sorry, it's 1 on the left and 2 to the right) in the picture above.

IMG_7123.jpg

Top cage comes sliding down, radiator and all. Oops, hit the VRM heatsink. Had to remove that.

Voila, it's out.

EDIT: @Wyer , your top cage should look like this from the top with bezel removed. There's nothing there to hold the cage in place other than the notches from the inside that should allow for sliding out the cage once the screws are removed. Only other reason I can think of that the cage is stuck to the chassis would be some adhesive put in place for non-radiator build?

There are 2 school of thoughts here:

@r72019 : Remove top bezel, unscrew the radiator/ sandwich from the top, and lower radiator + fans sans the cage.

@Bmwpower603 : Don't remove top bezel, remove VRM heatsink + RAM, unscrew cage from the inside, slide out everything including cage.

I have been using @r72019's all the while except the one time I made the sandwich and wanted to see for myself if @Bmwpower603's method works and it did. So it's up to the person to decide which way they are more comfortable with.
