AW3423DW, does not wake from standby

I received my AW3423DW less than a month ago and seem to be having an issue where the AW3423DW goes into standby, then I cannot wake it unless I unplug it, let it sit for a few seconds, then plug it back in. I am also aware which button is the power button and which is the menu button. I have searched the forums and online for this issue and usually it seems that people mistake the menu button for the power button. Suffice to say, when the power button doesn't work, the menu button doesn't either.

The occurrence is random, and not related to the pixel refresh cycle. I know that is happening when I see a breathing green light, though the pixel refresh appears to happen quite often and with what seems a greater frequency than 4 hours use time. I've seen the pixel refresh happen 2 times in a row within 20 minutes of each other and the first was allowed to complete before I used the AW3423DW again.

When the AW3423DW doesn't wake, sometimes the power light will be on purple (which is the color I set it to while on), sometimes the power light will be off (which I set it to when the AW3423DW is off), and sometimes it will just be stuck a random color, of which I have seen pink or teal. When any of these is happening, the power button is unresponsive. No amount of pressing it will make the AW3423DW turn back on. I have tried holding it for quite a while with no result. Moving my mouse or hitting a key will not wake it. The only way to get it to work again is to unplug, wait, plug back in.

I had a similar issue with my last monitor, a Dell S3220DGF. That monitor also would go into sleep mode, but the backlight would stay on displaying a black screen which is very possibly what's happening with the AW3423DW, there's just no backlight so the screen appears black but is still on. No amount of messing with the power button would wake it. I would need to unplug it then plug it back in and it would work fine. The occurrence was random with that monitor as well.

I have tried updating power settings in both the Command Center, as well as in Windows. I have tried updating my drivers using the ones on the Dell website as well as letting Windows find what it believes is the best driver. I have tried different ports on my video card. I am using the supplied DisplayPort cable that came with the AW3423DW plugged into an EVGA 3080 FTW3 and my AW3423DW firmware is M0B102. I do not believe the video card is the issue as I've had the same issue on an EVGA 1080ti SC2. I am currently using Windows 11 but the issue happened using Windows 10 as well.

Any help on this would be appreciated. I am worried this issue will get worse until it just no longer turns back on.

Made an account to report this too, got the monitor in September and has been an absolute dream till now... Have tried all suggestions on this thread and others in hopes for it to not happen again. Normally when I know I' m not gonna use my desktop for more than  30min I just switch off the monitor. But this time it just stayed off, scary Had to unplug and replug, will possibly post more if it happens again.

Yup, happened again this evening. Seems if I turn off the screen when not in use while my desktop is still on, it won't wake up again. Gonna try by not turning off the screen.

One month ago Dell shipped me a replacement monitor with the latest firmware update (MOB03) , and now this is happening yet again. Absolutely trash monitor that locks in standby, and otherwise suffers from a bad fan curve.

Is one monitor older than the other? Have one of them gone trough a full panel refresh?

I am experience the same issue with my monitor AW3423DW.  I have also been experiencing cycles where it will not turn on unless I plug and plug it back in.   The monitor is constantly doing pixel refreshes like 5 to 10 times a day.  I have 2 computers hitched up to it one a mac and one windows pc, it have the same behavior for both.  The firmware seems extremely buggy.....

Seems widespread enough. I can confirm that it still happens with MOB03 units produced as late as October 2023.

Same issue, here. Monitor just refuses to wake and requires an unplug/replug of power to get going. Sometimes the power LED is unlit, sometimes it's solid white and sometimes it's cycling colors. It seems like the problem is getting worse, too. It's happening practically every morning now. And the pixel refresh thing seems to also be popping up at random times and more frequently than when I first got the monitor.

I might try an RMA, but I've heard that plenty people who've had this issue just end up with another monitor with the same issue. Don't think I'll be getting another Dell monitor anytime soon. Samsung or LG make the panels, so I'll just go with one of them in the future.

Just came here to say the same thing as everyone else. I have had this monitor since late 2022 and this now happens to me often. I saw someone say they figured out after testing that it is related to the monitor switching between HDR and SDR. For now I am turning off HDR in Windows 11 and I will see what happens. I also did what some other people suggested when it comes to uninstalling alienwares software and turning off eco mode but I saw others say that did nothing so not super optimistic at the moment. This is unacceptable for what I paid for this thing. I would not buy another Dell monitor in the future.

I'm not 100% sure it's the switching between SDR and HDR, but I was able to get it to lock up several times by switching back and forth. Mind you it wouldn't happen every switch, but it would happen within 2 minutes switching approx every 10 seconds. Other times I've had lockups are while playing older games and it switches resolution. That still may fall into the HDR switching category as well since older games don't support HDR.

I started this thread  6 months ago. There's been no response f rom Dell or any confirmation of what the issue is. I will definitely never be buying a Dell product again.

You can't call Dell and ship this garbage back to them? Not that it mattered for me, as the new monitors got the same problem after 1-2 months of using it. But as I said earlier, if it happens once more, I'll be entitled to a full refund, and will probably just go with Philip or MSI instead.

Sure I can send it back but like you said there's a good chance the new one will have the same issue. What are the stipulations that you know of that would qualify for a full refund? If I had known that was an option I would have started that a long time ago.

Before the same thing happened to my second monitor, my guess was that the chance was very low. This thread would be a lot bigger if this problem affected as little as 10% of the AW3423DW owners. But maybe I'm just unlucky. Who knows...?
