QD-OLED HDR Peak 1000 Mode EOTF Tracking Fix
<All Alienware Monitors threads belong on the Alienware Desktops board. Not the Monitors board. DELL-Admin>
I would like to bring to everyone's attention that MSI has managed to fix the EOTF tracking issues for the HDR peak 1000 mode on their QD-OLED monitors with a firmware update. This was tested by TFT Central (https://tftcentral.co.uk/articles/the-new-msi-firmware-update-properly-fixes-the-peak-1000-hdr-mode-for-many-of-their-qd-oled-monitors). This has fully solved the early roll off and dimming behavior in the peak 1000 mode that plagued every QD-OLED monitor.
Will this be addressed in a firmware update for the AW3225QF and AW2725DF? Clearly the fix is possible and it greatly enhances the capabilities of these monitors.

As someone that primarily sells Dell products to clients because the warranty is usually pretty sound, I opted to choose the AW3225QF back not long after its launch. The fact that Dell is the only manufacturer to not only acknowledge this issue but also address it tells me I should start pushing my clients in a different direction going forward. Heck, we haven't had any updates to the firmware since April of '24. We're almost a year without updates and I still have warranty on this thing until 2027, yet silence from Dell on a known issue.
This is not the first time Dell has tried to mess overs its customers and won't be the last.

The Reddit posts, tft central coverage, forum posts, dozens of angry buyers on Dell's own forums left with no responses ensures this is my very last Dell monitor.
Quoting today's Reddit post STILL talking about this issue that sums up how I feel:
"All other OEMs classified it as a major issue, warranting a rework of the HDR1000 preset that they all delivered. The fact that Dell's response is that it's as designed because it's up to an erroneous spec that everyone else (including Samsung on their very own monitor with this panel) corrected, is offensive to the buyers who can clearly see the issue that Dell tried to sweep under the rug. Now they stand out as the only company that entirely ignored their buyers.
It's not just Reddit, news articles and forums complaining either. There are tons of people who went through the effort of signing up, expressing disappointment and asking questions on their very own support forums, who are left with no further communication from Dell.
We should call out Dell for this, and stop recommending their monitors, as this lack of support means that purchases of their monitors come with a far higher degree of risk of being left on your own with unresolved issues than if you go with their competitors' products with the very same panels. Their only official response communicates only neglect of their flagship(!) product."

You priced this monitor high so we deserve firmware and improvements for this monitor. You can’t be messing around and showing silence when these issues can be fixed with firmware updates.

What is up with Alienware and horrific firmware support? I always considered Alienware as one of the most premium brands, right up there with ASUS ROG. I can't believe that all their competitors have provided a fix for this issue, for a $1000 monitor, yet Dell is still dragging its heels. In the future, it's ASUS for me.

Im almost inclined to return my AW3225qf and get the MSI instead. Before it was unfortunate that peak 1000 had problems but everyone had those problems but now everyone fixed it one way or another. Most fixes had their own problems but MSI now actually made the Peak 1000 mode perfectly viable and accurate. Dells refusal to even acknowledge this as a problem is not acceptable. I still have a little bit of hope that they might be working on something in secret and don’t want to promise a fix before they know they can deliver but at this point they should a least tell us if they are doing something or nothing.

Dell needs to step up, or their next-generation OLED release will be widely discouraged. They earned a lot of goodwill with the third-gen by being the only manufacturer offering reasonable EU pricing, but they'll squander it entirely if they continue refusing to fix the much-requested HDR Peak 1000 mode.

Dell has been really lacking in their firmware support for their new monitors - back when these oled panels came out people (myself included) were complaining they couldn't enable dldsr because DSC was always on, and other manufacturers released firmware to provide a DSC toggle within a couple months of release but Dell to this day hasn't added this seemingly simple toggle.
Another issue gone unaddressed is that for whatever reason their monitors' srgb mode doesn't use real gamma 2.2 when you select it in creator srgb and instead uses piecewise srgb, resulting in a washed out srgb experience that requires a third party program to correct - literally every other manufacturer uses the correct gamma 2.2 for their srgb modes - it really makes me question if they truely know what they're doing.
And for them to say this dodgy EOTF tracking is intended behaviour when the manufacturer of the panel itself has addressed it is a slap in the face tbh. I've always stuck with Dell/Alienware monitors because of their support but it seems non-existent now. I've gained such buyer's remorse over time with my AW2725DF I wish I chose msi.

I have the AW32 and bought it around launch. Seeing all the different manufacturers have the issue made me think it was the panel, and I'd have to deal with it no matter what.
The fact that everyone else has fixed it, EXCEPT DELL, blows me mind. I can't recommend Dell to anyone else anymore. Get your firmware fixed. It's BS that we paid a few hundred more than the MSI, but somehow they fixed it.

New AW3225QF owner. Considering returning the monitor in regards to this issue. It will certainly be the last Dell / AW monitor I purchase if the company is shown not supporting it's own products so quickly after release.

@Simz83 Honestly, I've had the AW32 since close to release, and it still drives me nuts that a blue sky in a game doesn't even look right in peak 1000 mode, now that I see MSI have fixed this, I would return it and get the MSI.

This monitor really needs a proper tone mapping option, other companies have it, what is happening here?
