So for 2 weeks, I have been getting a "critical firmware update required" message on my windows bar. I go to Alienware Update and download and install the 2 critical updates. My computer restarts and comes back and everything looks good. Then I get the same "critical firmware update required" message again. I go back into Alienware Update, and the same 2 critical updates are there. I have installed these same updates 3 times, but they keep coming back. I have a Aurora R8. Is anyone else having this issue or have any thoughts on it?
I got a firmware update (the one in device manager) through Windows update...
If your talking about a BIOS update, I would not do it from Support Assist but would download the BIOS update to a usb stick and do it through the BIOS update utility by pressing F12 on start-up.
Thanks Speedstop, I will consider that in the future. I have always heard firmware was safe to do, have you had issues with it in the past?
As for my current issue, I did resolve it. The "restart automatically" had been checked off. So once I installed the update, I actually had to restart it manually several times for the update to take effect. At this point it all looks good.
Well, I spoke too sooner, after restarting my computer several times in a row, and it was clearly doing the bios and windows update, the update still came back today.
Speedstop, I am going to take your advice and ignore it.

i would remove support assist and not let any more updates that could make my computer go from critical to totally DEAD.
