Alienware Aurora R6 clicking noise

So I've looked it up for a bit but I can't find anything definitive on the matter. I'm pretty sure it's coming from the PSU but it doesn't look like anything is colliding with the fan. I'm not sure what it could be.

Here's a video of the problem. I'm kind of sure it's not a HDD problem but you never know. Anyone have an idea of what it is? It's brand new.

Hi,

Would also like to contact Alienware-Rodrigo to see what could be done. I think you must add me as "friend" so I can PM you :-)

Same problem as a lot of people here: new Aurora R6 machine, 850 PSU liquid cooling with single graphic card.

Seems to coil whine (or wathever the sound is) like hell as a cheap power supply the moment it needs to supply power to demanding task.

Have talked with technician, they know it is a problem. No solution was offered to me a part of "waiting for a new bios".

The problem is definitly with the PSU, no unusual sound come from other computer part (even the GPU & GPU fan fully under load is a lot quieter). I had many computer before, a few years back graphic card were even more power demanding and never had this kind of cheap stressed hardware sound from a high wattage PSU.

I hope we can get a solution, and that Alienware will change their PSU supplier in the future, or at least put pressure on them.

Thanks for helping if possible,

Louis

What video card is installed?

What is Make and DPN of your existing Power-Supply? Do you have a pic of the (hidden) large PS specs-sticker?

1. It is a GTX 1080 Ti.

2. Here are the info of the PSU: CN-0YWPVT-PE200-772-0057-A01. DP/N: 0YWPVT (got a pic of the little sticker with me!).

1. Ok, good to know.

2. I think that is just the DPN for the case's power-supply holder/bracket.

OK so here are the checked answer:

1. GTX 1080 Ti

2. lol.. it was indeed the holder/bracket!

3. PSU:

Delta Electronics, 80 plus bronze, model D850EF-00 (DPS-850AB-2-A)

CN-ON1WJD-DED00

74P-00S5-A01

DP/N: ON1WJD

PSU hidden label

I think Delta usually have a good reputation as per quality build.

Alienware-Rodrigo, having the exact same problem. Can you add me so I can send you a PM.

Amazing they are still sending this PSU out when I ordered mine in September when this was a known problem for months.

Hi, is anyone from Alienware give us some advice on how to resolve this issue, this is my second Alienware Aurora doing the same, I had to returned the first one because calling the support number did not resolved the issue and they are not familiarized with the computer and their suggestion after sending some replacement parts was to return the machine for a refund, I bought a second one and now its doing the same noise again, I think the way to solve this issue is by having somebody from Alienware in the USA who has some expertize on this machines to help us.

Thank you

Do you have 2 individual and separate modular cables going from back of Power-Supply down to the 8-pinners on the GTX-1080ti?

How to you think 12v-A, 12v-B, and 12v-D are arranged and outputted from the modular sockets of the Power-Supply?

Hi Tesla1856, good questions.

Would like to have a spec sheet to identify the 12V-B (48A) to hook the graphic card on this one!

From my observations:

The PSU seems to have 4 PCI-E slot (6pin out). No specific circuit indication so far.

I have 2 sets identified and bundleded together. On for the main GPU and a possible second GPU (cable unused).

Therefore, the 4 PCI-E out from the PSU are taken.

2 of them goes naturally to the GTX1080Ti (labelled R5-R6): one for the 8 pin GTX connector (6+2) and the other for the 6 pin GTX connector.

I wonder if a technical spec sheet for this PSU could help determine if some of the PCI-E output are on different "circuit". Using different circuit might help reducing the stress level this PSU seems to experience while giving power to the GPU. But the 4 PCI-E output slot are all align individually, there is no external cues as to how they are wired inside.

I don't know if I make sense, I'm familiar with computer tweaking and technical setup, but not used to the inner fonctionning of a PSU.

Anyway, the real problem is that the card have 250W usage from the official Nvidia's spec (recommended PSU of 600W); therefore a 850W PSU should not be under any specific stress while doing it's job. ...if I understand correctly  :-)

Have a nice day,

Louis
