Alienware M17x R4 Speakers sound Blown

recently bought a Alienware M17x and the speakers sound blown, I haven't listened to them up at full volume i noticed it when i played some Simon And Garfunkel (and others that's just what i happened to listen before i posted this) and all i could hear out the left speaker was what i could only describe as a farting sound where the bass should be.

i have tried to turn the bass settings down from the default and get no improvement.

Is there anyone out there with the same problems or would this equal a dell engineer to come out and replace the speakers?

Hi keiren black,

Known good speakers:

Check with a known good speakers, connect either a head phone or speakers and check if the same issue persists.

I recommend running diagnostics on the computer (restart the computer by holding the FN and the power button).Check the quality of sound during the test.

Awaiting your response!

Hey Keiren black,

If you use headphones, is the sound better?

What BIOS version are you running?

Keiren, are you using optical toslink adapter with the sp/dif port?  The problem I experience seemed to begin after I started using this with the headphones.  I'm curious if you use one of these and if you've had the issue again.  Also did they just replace the speakers or the motherboard?

hey Ian nope i haven't used the sp/dif port on my laptop at all. They just came out and replaced the speakers it took all of half an hour and it was a professional job i have to say, using all the appropriate safety equipment to protect the laptop. What i did notice was it was a certain frequency that made the distorting sound. So i think it was the actual driver that was damaged some how. But it is all fixed now thanks to the support team

My laptop is doing the EXACT same thing out of the left speaker. Had the speakers replaced last week under warranty, but it still sounds blown.

My brother had the same problem and they came back out and changed the sound card or the motherboard i cant quite remember. Give them another call and explain that you have had the speakers replaced and they will hopefully fix the issues.

Also i would try and get some .FLAC music files and play them, as they are least likely to have any distortion on them as it could be the quality of the music files that are causing the distortion.

Hope this was helpful
