AreA 51 r2

Can anyone suggest a solution here.?

area 51 r2

i7 5930k

32 gb crucial ddr4 2666/2133/2400

2x titanx (pascal)

256gb ssd/4tb hdd @5400

I updated to A12 bios. Replaced the cpu/processor with a 6900k Broadwell, Turned on the machine..No beeps

seemed to startup ok, but to signal to the display.

So I reinstalled the 5930k to see if cpu/processor was just having a problem, so still no signal to the display. (worked fine before!)

Now I'm confused. So performed RAM removal-check for beeps, Beeped ok. Then removed video cards- no beeps.

AW tech support says this is strange as well, Proceeds to a level 3 escalation and tries the upgrade on their machine

(just like mine). Tells me theirs is Fine. And recommends I replace my MotherBoard. (which is now on its way).

I am just a Hobbyist and still have my laptop , but I read a lot of forums b4 I decided to switch processors and am surprised to find I've done something wrong.

it just got here.  The label says bios rev a03.  I guess Ill  have to install the 5930k.   The guy told me he'd send the board ready for 6900k.   I still don't know what went wrong the first time. I know if the 6900 sits around Illl want to try installing it again.

hmm. sounds like you received an old Board. what is the Motherboard Revision? my says Rev. 01 (late 2014). but my Board is not the first Revision Rev. 00 exists (early 2014).

and yes. you have to install your old CPU first and then Update the BIOS.

Well, Up and running with 5930k.  All out of thermal paste though.  Memory speed is 2400mhz like I wanted , like it was before all the new bios'e. A8 or 10 endentured the  2133 MHz to all but Broadwell models.  Ill have to wait a couple days now and see what I need to do. Probably update to the Bios where Broadwell is initially supported, and try the install.

Until then I am memory happy but technology limited (lol).

Its only allowing legacy boot.  I mean it will boot UEFI but u must manually select it from f12 every time.

great News. no Thermal Paste is kinda bad Timing.

i don't get what you meen by A8 / A10 2133 DRAM Frequency. i have A11 and my RAM is @ 2666 MHz with 5820K CPU installed.

i believe you need atleast BIOS A08 for your new CPU.

the Legacy / UEFI Thing is weird too. Enable Secure Boot and Install Secure Key (Option below Secure Boot).

Y I had xmp option but I had 2400mhz in 'auto' which I thought was cool.   I just put in 2 crucial ssd's and installed windows on them,  there's still no uefi option in bios. VeryStrange. and the uefi option is now gone from the setup menu

where u can select boot location.. though the install usb had usb over uefi option.

???

there is no UEFI Option. you have

a) Secure Boot (Enable / Disable)

b) Install Secure Key (if Secure Key is installled you have Clear Secure Key instead)

c) Legacy Mode (Enable / Disable)

if Secure Boot is Enabled and Secure Key is installed then the Legacy Mode is automatically Disabled and Grayed Out. that meens the PC is running in UEFI Mode. if you go to Boot Option #1, then you can only see Hard Disk: Windows Boot. it doesn't show up as UEFI HDD: Windows Boot for me as well. only if you're using Bootable Flash Drive it shows up as UEFI JetFlash for Example.

Boot into Windows and open System Information. then search for "BIOS Mode" in the List. it should show "UEFI".

Yes I understand most of that.  I may have overlooked 'disable legacy' I think it says 'boot mode' and there is no other dialogue.  Secure boot is grayed out and security key I  think wants me to input the code .(Ill look some more).

I did achieve system info. it does say UEFI bios mode. I can select boot from the f12 dialogue.  But so  far I must do it every time.  I found some thermal paste, I might do the processor 2morro , but I know when I update the bios, I cannot revert and the AUTO setting will only provide  2133 mhz. (thx engineers) lol.   So I would have to learn xmp application

for 2400 or 2666,  if the new processor doent boot up.   But right now Im ok

try following:

1. go into BIOS > Boot

2. Legacy Mode = Disabled

3. Save & Exit

4. go back into BIOS again. is Secure Boot available now? if yes

5. Secure Boot = Enable

6. Install Key (Hit Enter, then klick Yes)

7. Boot Option #1 = Hard Disk Windows Boot

8. Save & Exit

and why do you want to re-flash your BIOS with the same version. just install newer one already.

Edit:

is it possible that your BIOS is locked with Admin Key or something like that? if yes, there is a Jumper on the Motherboard.

Well I checked out the bios and most options are greyed out,  Ill try flashing with the same version, The option to change boot mode does nothing  (theres only legacy)(I mean I try to change it in the bios under BOOT), no way to enable secure boot(it was always disabled before I crashed it), I guess Ill google secure key.

I still am running the 5930k.

I can;t disable legacy boot in the boot menu.  It wont let me.  To boot uefi I have to do it everytime from f12/f2  menu.

MayB Ill try looking at the jumper,  where is it? (?) Is it the Reset Jumper 3-2 2-3  3-2 pins  in order?  (pw  or cmos?)

Re-Flash was just a thought-sometimes computers fix themselves.  MayB there was hardware detection discrepancies and all my updated drivers/programs  are discoverable.  ...
