Constant loud fan noise in brand-new Alienware Aurora R5 desktop

I just bought a new Alienware Aurora R5 desktop, and as soon as I got it out of the box and plugged it in for its maiden voyage, it started making a loud fan noise that never stopped; here's a video with the sound: [View:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1SQBIUJ9aE:550:0].

The fan that's making the sound is the one that can be seen through the vents on top of the case; once I powered off the computer, I watched/heard it slow down and eventually stop.

I tried using the Alienware Command Center's Thermal Control settings, but the fan continued to make this noise even when I manually turned it down to 0% (it said "454rpm, idle"). For what it's worth, it sounds much louder in person than it does in the video.

After discussing with some friends, they think that either the fan is hitting part of its own chassis, or that perhaps something is caught in it. I wasn't able to access this fan when I slid off the case's side panel, though, and I didn't want to go poking around in there, so I left it as-is for now.

Has anyone else encountered this? Is there some way that I can fix it or does someone from Dell/Alienware need to come take a look?

Thanks, everyone.

Dell sent a technician to replace the fan and it's been working just fine since then.

I'm all set.

Thanks, Tesla1856, I'll try contacting phone support.

Having said that, it shouldn't matter if I didn't get the 850w power supply and liquid cooler with the R5, since none of the people I've asked think that this is normal.  If those components are truly necessary for correct functioning, then it seems like they should come standard and Dell should just increase the base cost for the system, :-).

I suggest you call phone support and direct them to this thread and your video.

They will help you to find cause (even if just a wire is caught in fan), and arrange a repair.

You also have the option to just return it. If it's more than a simple wire rubbing or similar, I would probably just return it.

Next time, I suggest you order the one with optional 850w Power-Supply and Liquid-Cooler.

Yes, I know all that. Everything you say is true.

Just trying to help you get a nice working machine. Maybe you should search forums a bit before you decide to discount my advice and try to save a few dollars. [:)] You get what you pay for.

I don't think the holier-than-thou attitude was necessary, but thank you nonetheless for your initial suggestion re: contacting phone support.

It was just a suggestion. I'm just trying to help you not exchange one-problem for another. If the posts are still online, you will see what I'm saying.

I didn't know how else to say it .

Just trying to help you.

The noise is a cable hitting the fan, just open the side panel and move the cables a bit the noise should stop. Leave the panel open until you hear no noise and move the cables while the computer is off.

Hope it helps, mine did the same and it stopped.

Search the web, or watch your own video again until the end. Once it ends there will be other similar videos having the same issue. Apparently the 850w runs better and is quiet.

Besides, a 450w leaves no room for additions or upgrades.
