15 R4, Hardware error message

Error messageError message

I was on  my laptop with quite a few things opened up. Suddenly the image on my browser became distorted and then the laptop screen went black for about 2 seconds and came back. The browser screen remained glitched (even after refreshing the page), once I closed the tab and opened another it was fine. This is just what I was doing and what I saw. I checked the reliability and this was the message that came up. I'm not entirely sure what this messages means actually or if there is anything I can do about it.

Start with a run of Who Crashed (the free version will work fine).  It may pinpoint the driver that caused the crash.

You will also want to run the Dell diagnostics on the system (f12 at powerup).

It says the laptop is in good health and has no issues that it can tell. (I’ve done this test before as well and same result) looking through it nothing notable appears. It shows all the signs of a laptop in good health and reasonable usage.

What did Who Crashed find in the crash log?

The GPU is fine I’ve recently had the GPU tested and stressed and it was great. While using the laptop it doesn’t seem like a GPU issue rather a different software issue. Only notable thing is the CPU suddenly maxes out or gets way too high at 80% or 90% about usage using usually “important” dell software or “important” Microsoft software. I put important in quotes cause when I have looked up the files it said they were important. It’s mainly just the dell software though that brings up the CPU at random times. Generally at start up the CPU gets high. Even times when I’m only on a browser generally Chrome the screen will have that black out. When I play Destiny 2 which is intense graphics the computer has never crashed or had a black screen happen to it (oddly enough). I hope this gives more perspective and helpful information. Also, new thermal pastes have been applied a few weeks ago this has improved some function.

Doesn’t seem to be any correlation with battery or adapter, no smells either. I also ran the disk scan before commenting and it said there were no errors.

It's never good to have more than one antivirus package installed -- they do trip over each other.

Remove all but one (or remove all and enable Windows Defender).  It's very conceivable that two antivirus programs will collide with each other.

It seems to be less frequent after new thermal paste has been applied to CPU and GPU and it doesn’t seem to completely black out the screen without being able to come back. Even when a crash happens it doesn’t seem to note it really in he reliability logs. Only consist thing I see is it keeps telling me a windows update failed but like I mean it’s just an update and it just says it every time in the log. I have different anti virus programs running on my laptop do you think I should consider trying another to see if that helps? Just curious honestly, I have avast as the main virus protector on my laptop.

Okay I’m removing some anti virus and no the thermal paste is not actually on them just where it should be, I just meant it was replaced around them. I’ll try out your suggestions. I also just got another hard drive error report, looks about the same as the other.

I have that installed already also, very notable news and I think it makes a lot of sense, so I download that malware thing you told me to and I did a full scan and it’s showing up with quite a few unwanted things and even says malware mostly associated with google chrome. Seeing as google chrome has been giving me the most grief. I’ve quarantined all the items most of them look fine to do so I double checked them. What are my next steps? Should I wait and see for now or do you have other suggestions? Also do you want a screenshot of the crystal disk info? The crystal disk says the computer is in good health it does show a 89%. Also just to put it out there all of my important files are backed up.

Sorry I’m not familiar with the kudos and sometimes it won’t let me press it.
