17 R4, Screen is not detecting
Hello,
Hope you are doing well. I have an out of warranty Alienware 17 R4 laptop. I have tried to clean it because fans were giving so much noise. Now after cleaning, laptop is giving 2 red and 7 blue blinking. As mentioned on Dell Alienware webpage that it is related to Dell screen issue. But I have checked that plug and port are both fine. In this issue, please guide me.
Thanks

Hi @Syed Taimoor Hussain the LED Diagnostics code 2,7 says Display failure. Having cleaned fans, etc. guess that screen cable has been disturbed and connection wants reseating. Please run BIST How to Run the LCD Built-in Self-Test on a Dell Laptop | Dell US to check that LED screen works. Does closing and opening the laptop lid get the LED screen working? Does connecting HDMI port to TV or external monitor show image of what should be displayed on laptop screen?
Please share an update. Thanks.

First, Thank you so much for helping me @crimsom. Second, This problem is resolved just few minutes ago but I think this problem will remain because I twisted (turned the cable 360 degree) and then put in the port. So now screen is working properly. I just observed that I have unplugged everything with great care and I even didn't disturb that port. After cleaning, I just put in again the cable in the port and half day spent no output even testing LCD Built-in Self-Test but failed each time. Today, in the morning I did twisted cable and worked. I didn't touch that cable again because whenever I touch that port or cable a little bit, again problem rises. For the future, please guide me about the solution to solve this problem permanently.
Thank you so much @crimsom for your valuable guidance and time.

Hi @Syed Taimoor Hussain thank you for sharing fix to get screen working. Would it be possible to share an image of the cable and its location that was giving this problem? Thank you in anticipation.

Sorry @crimsom for the late reply. I am sending you the pic of my motherboard with that cable. I also want to discuss over here why this is not working without turning/twisting the wire means like the one before cleaning. Even port and plug both are good.

Hi @Syed Taimoor Hussain thank you for sharing image. Your image is part of the Alienware 17 R4 back.
Your image has revealed the area that is behind the 5. External graphics port. To the right is one of the two metal hinges for the lid.
Your image has a red arrow pointing to the display cable connection to the system board, circle 2 and 3.
I have zoomed in to red arrow and used image enhancement to increase local image brightness so that forum users can hopefully see, what you can see. Your investigation reveals turning/twisting the display cable, rotating connection plug 360 degrees clockwise and reseating in its socket, has reinstated screen function. This is a very good update. Thank you for sharing this fix.

@crimsom, hope you are doing well. I have now another issue that my laptop is not turning on now. On starting of laptop, fans run top speed and then turn off after few minutes. There is no display on screen and even there is no error.
Thanks
