Not sure why AlienFX devices not detected, could be bad connection, hardware, firmware, software conflict, etc.
The Caps Lock and Num Lock keys have toggle on/off light indicators that work. Other lights do not work.
SupportAssist says there is nothing wrong.
Is there a diagnostic to run that might reveal the source of this problem, so it can be fixed?
Is there a check list to reveal which drivers should be in device manager? (A second AWCC driver with warning triangle was deleted from within System Devices).
Evidently it is possible to test LED lights using the installed AlienFXTester by going to OS(C:) > Program Files > Alienware > Command Center > AlienwareAlienFXTester. Clicking on this application opens the ALIENWARE ALIENFX window and clicking on the selection menu, tests Red, Green, Blue, White LEDs.
The Command Center shown in the video says that there are 174 items in this folder. But this 17 R5 only has 70 items in this folder and this does not include the Alienware AlienFXTester. Not sure if the AlienFXTester is normally to be found on the 17 R5.
Hello @Alienware-Eimy thank you for revealing that the AlienFx Tester is not present in the Alienware 17 R5 Alienware Command Center.
Our 17 R5 LEDs do not work. Not sure if this is a hardware fault.
When Alienware Command Center opens, a WARNING window appears and says: “No supported AlienFX devices were detected. Alienware Command Center will enable the full FX experience once an AlienFX compatible device is connected, Please note that some features may be unavailable without a connected AlienFX device.”
Support Assist's troubleshooting specific piece of hardware, does not list option to test LEDs.
Alienware FX Light Issues says: If issue persists please go to "Control Panel", "Programs and Features" and choose uninstall Command Center, when setup loads, run the "Repair" option. This will solve any software corruption in the AlienFX firmware while installing.
This new Alienware 17 R5 (i7-8750H, GTX 1070, QHD) Laptop was delivered one week ago. This is my first Dell computer and has had the most up to date Alienware-Command-Center-Application_0H00M_WIN_5.2.75.0_A00 installed.
The Repair option in the Win10 Pro 64 bit Programs and Features offers the option to repair, but the Alienware FX lights do not work, fault has not been fixed!!!
The new Alienware 17 R5 (i7-8750H, GTX 1070, QHD) Laptop purchased from UK Vendor is now one week old. As with any new out of the box computer, updates were installed. Support Assist recommended the Alienware-Command-Center-Application_0H00M_WIN_5.2.75.0_A00 update and it was installed.
Now Alienware Command Center opens with WARNING window that says: “No supported AlienFX devices were detected. Alienware Command Center will enable the full FX experience once an AlienFX compatible device is connected, Please note that some features may be unavailable without a connected AlienFX device.”
The Repair option in the Win10 Pro 64 bit Programs and Features offers the option to repair, but this fault was not fixed. All Alienware FX lights do not work. There could be other problems. Not sure how to fix this fault.
Alienware Command Center Suite 5.2.75.0 says: “No supported AlienFX devices were detected. Alienware Command Center will enable the full FX experience once an AlienFX compatible device is connected, Please note that some features may be unavailable without a connected AlienFX device.”
Alienware FX lights do not work. Alienware Command Center Suite does not include FX lights function test. There could be other problems with this new laptop.
Is there a diagnostic and/or fix for these faults?
Thanks to @DELL-Chris M for unblocking my original message and merging my other topics into this thread.
Apologies if the merged sequence of conversations are confusing for the reader. Hopefully the reader can appreciate that there is more than one fault to fix on this new laptop.
Opened Microsoft.com account and declared 17 R5 as my device. Hopefully Microsoft will become aware of the Microsoft vs Alienware conflicts and fix the problems. Tenuous logic, but there is only one contributor to this thread. Questions and speculation, but no answers at the moment.
Evidently, Malice_81 had a similar problem with their 17 R3 AlienFX lights not working. There might well be more than one issue that could cause this. Dell sent a technician twice, replacing two motherboards and the AlienFX lights did not work.
Malice_81 eventually discovered that antivirus software was marking a number of Alienware files as infected and removing them. Malice_81's solution was to add exclusions to the antivirus software after restoring the Alienware files. Malice_81 would not be surprised if this 17 R3 issue pervaded throughout all Alienware models and hopes this information will save the time they lost.
It is difficult looking for files that are not there. If only there was a 17 R5 template for what files should be there. That would make this problem less difficult to explore. Will someone volunteer to post an image of what files are on a fully functioning 17 R5.
Unable to access 17 R5 today because Microsoft.com has imposed administrative ownership and will only grant user access if Microsoft.com password is used. That is a nasty surprise.
Microsoft.com has also imposed Verification of account by (mobile) phone on their Outlook.com accounts. So for anyone that does not get a mobile signal, does not have a mobile phone, is more than the permitted distance from original registration location (e.g. away on holiday or business), etc., it is going to be difficult to be without your laptop.
Also took the opportunity of going to Control Panel > User Accounts > Credential Manager only to see Persistence at Enterprise level of Vendor having installed their 'hidden' password protected account on this 17 R5.
One step forward, two steps backward trying to fix the Dell AlienFX light, etc. fault. Nearly ready to send this days old, new Alienware 17 R5 laptop back to the Vendor for a full refund.
Do not comprehend why Dell does not include check of AlienFX software in their diagnostic.
Trying to understand my online purchase. A pig in a poke is a thing that is bought without first being inspected, and thus of unknown authenticity or quality. My online chat with Dell revealed that the existence of this Alienware 17 R5 Laptop was not recorded on the Dell database. The first message in this thread starts with the Alienware Command Center Suite saying no supported AlienFX devices were detected. The AlienFX lights do not work.
This is my first out of the box Dell laptop. I do not know how many AlienFX devices exist on a new laptop.
Can any of the 17 R5 owners tell me just how much of a pig in a poke is this new Alienware 17 R5 Laptop?
Resource and Performance Monitor. Warnings says Error. Device is not working properly; Windows cannot load the required device drivers. A device has a configuration problem that prevents it from working properly. The device, AWCC Driver, is reporting "tv_ConfigMgrErr31". This device will not be available until the issue is resolved. Plug And Play Device Configured Fail on 3 Plug and Play Devices. The Plug and Play ID for this device is ROOT\SYSTEM\0003, and 0004, and 0005.
Hardware Device and Driver Checks says Failed. Problem with AWCC 5.2.75.0 Driver. There are 3 plug and play issues to be resolved before the AWCC device becomes available.
I had the same issue after AWCC did an update. Uninstalled/re-installed in the normal way from my user account. Turns out that the problem in my case is that the registry is the problem. By that I mean that when the update installed it did not use administrative rights even though my use account has full administrative rights. So I ended up having to uninstall from the Administrator account and use a registry cleaner to get rid of all references in the the registry user accounts to the AWCC software. Used Revo Uninstaller to do it rather than Windows control panel. Downloaded the latest version of AWCC and OC Controls and installed them in the Administrator account using the 'Run as Administrator' command (right click on install file). This fixed everything and AWCC ran without a hitch after that. I think I also had to re-install in the user account as well. I had a big long post on how to do this but Dell's system tagged it as spam and deleted it. I hope this message isn't wiped out by them, too.
Note: Had to repost this as Dell managed to flag it as spam.

Alienware FX Light Issues mentions the Alienware AlienFX Editor taskbar, but search cannot find it.
Where is the 17 R5 diagnostic that is used for testing of the LEDs?

Compare My Registry Alienware entries with Not My Registry Alienware entries, see images.
@Alienware-Joe How are the 'missing' registry entries loaded?
Will AFX Capable Devices registry entry get LEDs working on Alienware 17 R5 model Cassini MLK Laptop?
