Alienware Aurora mALX

Hi!

I have recently got my hands on a beast of machine! The Alienware Aurora mALX "portable" PC. It has Windows 7 "installed" but no drivers that seem to work. I have tried to boot from the DVD drive, USB stick etc. but for some reason it won´t boot... three questions:

1. what is a recommended OS for this old machine? My plan is to use it to show my kids what games I played when I was young (DOS, and early windows games)

2. does anyone know why I can´t get it to boot from any other place than the HD? I have tried to change settings in the bios but to no avail...

3. it came with a CD/DVD with some .gho files. I believe it is a backup of the factory HD but I don´t know how to start a restore since it doesn´t boot

I hope anyone can help, I really would like to get this beast up and running again!

/M

This is a pre-Dell Alienware system that was built by Clevo, which is still the major gaming notebook supplier to the "custom/boutique" builders -- Sager, AVA, Falcon, Origin, Eurocom, etc.     The Clevo model is M590K.

It shipped with Windows XP, but should run Windows 7 just fine (keep it offline, as that OS is completely insecure at this point).  The backup is probably from an old version of Symantec Ghost, which you'd need to restore those images (there are also some other backup utilities that can read ghost files).

One place to try for drivers:
