Applications at that level require expensive mobile hardware to run.  An Alienware will do the job - so too will a Precision mobile workstation, which will be similar in cost if not higher.

For the cost of one high-end mobile workstation or gaming notebook, you can build two desktop systems - that is, a mobile gaming system will cost about twice what a desktop gaming system will.  So, you do have an option - build another desktop.  Choose components wisely (for instance, go with a Ryzen rather than an Intel CPU) and you'll probably find the two desktops will come in under the cost of one notebook and be faster and much more upgradable to boot.

Well good question. If you need one built do not pay any attention to the delivery dates or the online status tools they are not accurate. My order and I have been checking every couple of days was built but is now it transit from an Asian country and I have no idea when it will get to me even if Dell sent me a tracking number. The tracking number provided by Dell is from FedEx and has not moved from input of the the initial data entry since 9-20 at 11:17 pm showing delivery by tomorrow 9-23 which has never changed from order placement.

My point being is that the if you need a machine quickly then find one already built because the status tools tracking a build from Dell are not accurate. I was told today on a chat session "Santhosh K (9/22/2020, 12:02:12 PM): This order is in final stage of shipping and it takes 3 -7 business days to get the tracking information updated on the website." This is not acceptable to me as it this package must be signed for and I will be out of town starting Friday.

My order if not delivered by Thursday pm it will be have rerouted back to Dell to be cancelled. Just know all of this going into the process. Great equipment but with the global supply chain and Dell is struggling on how to keep customers informed in a timely and accurate manner.

I was really impressed with the alienware m15 r3 when I first got it. The model I got has a geforce 2070 super and a 4k OLED screen. The keyboard is well build, the touchpad is no apple touchpad but its fairly decent. The screen is fantastic and I was able to play games like Witcher max settings at 4k which looked incredible. After about a month the system started to drag, the CPU is heavily thermal throttling, after 4 hours on with support today I am not sure I can recommend it.

If you end up lucky with one that doesnt overheat its amazing, if you get unlucky its sad times. It seems dell is known for using really bad thermal paste, the onsite techs I have spoken to(I work in IT) all said to pickup your own thermal paste and give it to them to use when they come on site and it would solve the issue.

Dont buy it, i spend 1600$ on a laptop, 600$ on repair in 3 years, now after a fix, there is still a problem. Even tho the 1st repair was during the warranty's cover, they still made me pay 350$. If you really want to buy a laptop, get it from msi, from asus rog, at least they cant be worse than this. The worst you can get is probably a alienware.
