Area-51m R1, Alienware update app issue
Hi All,
I am facing issue with "Alienware Update" app. Everytime I check for update, it shows up 10% progress and remains there forever.
I checked online I found some option where I need to uninstall and reinstall it several times. But that did not help me in any way.
Please let me know how I can fix this issue. I have even installed previous version of alienware update app, reset, repaired..
Thanks

Hi @kromastorm you have already used your Service Tag to download Area-51m R1 Dell Update Application from Drivers & Downloads. Go to your download location and use run as administrator to launch Dell Update Application. It will either update or you will have to modify your existing Dell Update Application. Restart when installation complete.
But normal operation of Dell Update Application was not reinstated. Try the following:-
If Alienware Update continues to be stuck in an operation, your OS C: disk may have errors or corrupted files. Open a command prompt and run a "chkdsk /f /r /x" (that's /f for "fix", /r for "relocate" data from bad sectors, /x for "eXit windows". This should clear any disk errors and/or corrupted files. Repeat if necessary.
If this problem persists, it could be a virus. Run a FULL (but NOT reboot) virus check with your existing antivirus; this checks whether the slow update is from a virus. Repeat if necessary.
Download and install the free Malwarebytes Anti-Malware application from Here, update and then run.
Remember to tell the Dell Community what works for your Area-51m R1. Thank you.

Hi,
Tried all three options, still no progress. I have kaspersky antivirus, did a quick scan using that. Full scan using Malwarebytes. reinistalled the dell update software twice with restart and did system check twice by scheduling it before boot up.

Hi @kromastorm ok, more drastic action required.
Ensure the integrity of your Dell Update Application's download, please verify it's checksum value Here. (There are two applications, Dell Update Application and Dell Update Application for Windows 10, not sure which one is giving problem.)
Do not connect to internet. Disable all security and malware applications, including Win10 security which may switch back on. Go to your download location and use run as administrator to launch Dell Update Application.
If that does not fix this problem, have a look in Task Manager's Details tab and stop most of what is running, but not the essential core services. Go to your download location and use run as administrator to launch Dell Update Application.

Apologies on the delay. I am currently out of city and new place does not have stable internet connectivity as of now.
I got some response from Dell Tech Support on this issue, here are the excerpts:
I am facing few more issues and my guess is that those are also impact from windows update. Will have to check with windows tech support I guess.

Actually this post with the update from DELL support is extremely helpful! I've been stuck in the same boat. I have a M17 r1 that worked fine, but after updating both windows and the Alienware Update, now neither the Alienware Update nor Dell SupportAssist work.
I also tried a bunch of solutions. I've uninstalled, disabled UAC, tried reinstalling Alienware Update ans SupportAssit in Admin mode... nothing works.
I'm glad the engineers between DELL and MS acknowledge that something isn't working right. Here's hoping an upcoming patch from MS, or version 3.1.4 addresses this issue soon.

I had the same issue. I have reset my PC and installed everything from scratch. It works fine now.
