M14x R1, won't boot from USB

Hello. As the post title states, my laptop won't boot from the USB device. I have it plugged into the left side of the laptop, as thats the only way BIOS recognizes there is a boot device plugged in.

Exact text on screen is

Intel UNDI, PXE-2.0 (build 083)

Copyright (C) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation

For Atheros PCIE Ethernet Controller v2.0.2.6(09/28/10)

Check cable connection!

PXE: Exiting Intel PXE ROM.

No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key

May be worth noting that there is a new 256 gb sata ssd installed in the laptop.

Press F12 at powerup a few times.  A boot menu will appear.  If you don't see the drive in the boot list, the drive is not UEFI bootable.

What's on it and how was it prepared?

    Hi

That is the HP way, port side (IE left) for a working USB port, and it is re-assuring to learn that Dell has the same ethos.

    "Intel UNDI, PXE-2.0 (build 083)

    Copyright (C) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation"

That message is the splash text from Intel’s legacy PXE (Preboot Execution Environment) network boot ROM, specifically the UNDI (Universal Network Driver Interface) layer used by older BIOS-era option ROMs.

So are you trying to boot an OS from the Port side, OR using ""Atheros PCIE Ethernet Controller"" to initiate a boot, that fails?

IF so is the Boot Manager list putting PXE above USB?

Please can you confirm the Make Model and OS, along with any configuration details like touch screen, backlit keyboard, SFF or tower etc etc.

More and more precise details please.

      Kind Regards
