M17 power adapter not recognized
Hi community!
When i start my Alienware M17 laptop I get the following message:
Alert! The AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined. The battery may not charge. The system will adjust the performance to match the power available. Please connect a Dell 240 watt AC adapter or greater for the best system performance. Note: this morning can be disabled in BIOS setup
My biggest issue is: "The system will adjust the performance to match the power of available." It has slowed down the performance to a crawl. I bought a new battery but still get the message. Any ideas?

The issue is one of three things:
The plug on the adapter (try a new OEM Dell adapter first),
The DC input jack (depending on the model, this may or may not be replaceable),
The mainboard charge circuit.
If a new OEM adapter is also unrecognized, and your revision of the M17 has a replaceable jack, that's the second thing to try. One of those usually solves the problem -- and if neither works, the charge circuit is bad; replace the system board.

This is my first Alienware product I've ever owned. I was so hyped when I got it. In the two years since the purchase the keyboard had certain keys that malfunctioned. The battery needed to be replaced. And now the power adapter is on the fritz...... AGAIN! It's already been replaced once and it looks like I need to buy another one. What a disappointment! Hopefully I am the only unlucky recipient of a lemon. Can't say I would recommend an Alienware to anyone that asks...

Is there at least a way to change the setting that adjusts the laptops performance according to the power available. Is that something I can disable? I've looked in the Windows settings under POWER and also BATTERY but had no luck
