m17x R4, BIOS update problem

Hi there, I'm having trouble trying to install the BIOS update. My battery is not charging and computer does not recognize the battery being plugged in, which is stopping the install from advancing further. Is there a fix for this issue?

Hi @Ardijaye  welcome to this user to user discussion forum. This is not Dell Support.

If the battery is disconnected, the Laptop is designed to function as a Desktop. If it thinks it is a Desktop, will the BIOS update be accepted?

Remember not to brick your system, download and install BIOS version updates incrementally (one update at a time), never update BIOS over the internet. Check integrity of download, Run as administrator, wait for installed successful window to appear, Restart (not Shut Down). Install next BIOS version, etc.

Laptop with no battery, Windows 10 reports power 255% available (plugged in).

Hello,

This video may help you but flash at your own risk.

If your laptop loses power during a BIOS flash then you can brick your system, this is why they try to force you to have a working battery installed.

JUST AS A WARNING.

ALWAYS USE AN ADAPTER WHENEVER POSSIBLE TO INSTALL A BIOS UPDATE AND ALMOST NEVER USE A BATTERY. IF THE BATTERY HAS AN ISSUE THEN oh wait hold on, Replace it and continue installing it. Sorry for the caps.
