Avamar backup from Linux server cmd line?

Was asked by one of our Linux admins if they can initiate a backup from their Linux server by command line to run on the Avamar grid. This can be done through the agent on a Windows server. Is there something similar for Linux?

We're running Avamar 6.0 on the grid if that matters.

Thanks!

The best option for this is likely mccli. If the system is running RHEL or SLES, you can install the mccli package directly. If not, you could configure SSH access to the utility node to run the mccli commands there.

You can use mccli commands to initiate on-demand backups for particular groups or clients including plug-in backups.

It is also possible to run file system backups by calling avtar directly but keep in mind that these backups can't be seen or controlled through the regular GUI.
