Avamar replication - can we use over-the-wire encryption?

Hi there,

Just been asked the question can we do replication encryption as we are going over a VPN on a public network. I know our VPN should handle the encryption just fine, but I've been asked if we can enable encryption at the Avamar level.

I've looked throught the admin manual and theres no mention of encryption on replication. Can this be done and can we specify what type of encryption to use? (AES etc.)

Thanks in advance,

Dave.

To answer the immediate question, yes, this can be done and we can choose the type of encryption to use (AES 128 or 256).

As to how to do it I'll try to put together a support solution within the next week and add it to this thread.

The data doesn¿t need to be encrypted because it is stored in hashes across the hosts and is sent as a multi length hashes across the wires. Because of that, the data can never be reassembled as it sits or over the wire
