can you replicate Avamar Backup Data to a remote Avamar71+DataDomain

can you replicate Avamar Backup Data to a remote Avamar71+DataDomain ?

Site 1:

Avamar Single Node 7.1

HQ:

Avamar Single Node 7.1 + DataDomain

Can we replicate backup data from site 1 to HQ storing backup data on the DataDomain ?

Hello,

At this time there is no support for GSAN --> DD migration / replication.

It has to be GSAN --> GSAN  or DD--> DD not a mix of two.

However you can of course replicate from site1 to HQ storing the backups in the GSAN on the HQ site.

Hello

it's not direct answer but i think it may be helpful

I have AVE 7.0.1-61 and DD2500 5.4

In my environment it works ave<->ave+dd. Replication from ave 7.0.1-61 storing backups locally and ave 7.0.1-61 with connected storage from dd2500 5.4

so

Regards,

tom

Tom,

From what I can tell your source AVE has no DD is this correct, if so then as Adam C. is correct.

Your source AVE’s GSAN based backups will replicate to a target AVE with DD however, they will be stored in its GSAN not in the DD .

Overtime this use case will consume your targets AVE GSAN space leaving little if any capacity to support metadata related stripes needed

to support any DD based backups if they were being performed on the target.

If your intention is to store these replicated backups in the target systems DD then you must have a DD at the source where its backups are

configured to be stored in its DD as replication is GSAN->GSAN or DD->DD but not any form of crossover.

If you truly had a need to take your source based GSAN backups and store them in the target systems DD as a backup copy not true replication

you can use a utility called ADMe which support this use case as a single operation. However, it cannot support every days backups as the work

load would be too high but monthly or perhaps weekly backups could be migrated to the target AVE and stored in its DD. You could also use it

to migrate long term backups you may have had in your original source AVE.

Adam K.

hello, thank you all,

Avamar data can only replicate to another Avamar.
DataDomain data can only replicate to another DataDomain.
When you have 1 site with only Avamar and a second site with the combination Avamar + DataDomain, then replication data from site 1 will be stored on the Avamar storage... so it will not travel from an Avamar GSAN to a remote DataDomain. Technically this is logical.
