Deactivate avamar agent on clients

Hi,

I am activating again an avamar agent on a client but it gives me an error and still looking for the old VDP. The old VDP was decommissioned and already not on the network. How can I re-activate the agents on workstations clients without the old VDP?

Hi,

You can stop the backup agent service. then rename the "var" folder under /avs. Restart the backup agent service and you will find the client in unregistered state.

I would recommend against renaming the whole var directory. Renaming the var directory will remove certain client configuration settings (e.g. whether to back up while on battery) and also force the caches to be recreated. This may cost both time and disk capacity.

If there are only a few clients, using the tray icon to activate the client to the new system is probably the best way to deal with this. Otherwise, removing just the cid.bin file and restarting the agent is just as effective as renaming the whole var directory without the downsides.
