FreeBSD

We are just starting to work with Avamar.  I have looked through a lot of documentation, but can't find anything about backing up FreeBSD VMs.  We have a handful of FreeBSD servers on our VMware infrastructure (managed by vCenter).  Would the Linux Image Backup work with FreeBSD?  Is a local client + FreeBSD File System plugin the only option?  Thanks.
