Sharepoint backups are a little interesting to setup, but when they execute, they provide excellent protection for the content databases.
The downside? Restoration of files in the content databases requires the installation and use of a third-party tool. Basically, you have to restore the Sharepoint database to another location, then parse it with another application to extract the files you wish to restore. This isn't unique to Avamar - other backup products have to handle Sharepoint in a similar fashion.
If you're willing to install, configure and manage another backup product just to handle SP, that's probably not a bad idea. If you only rarely perform SP restores, but are otherwise happy with Avamar, it's probably not worth the trouble.
Thanks for the response; I'll test it out and see what it can do and see if it suffices for my SP admin, we don't do a ton of restores but when we do it's always beyond a simple file level restore which is always a pain, at least with CommVault, we also use host header based sites which cause nothing but trouble it seems. I was hoping for an SP specific product but so far they're somewhat expensive, Metlogix was $24K. Anyways thanks again.

Let us know if that helps!
