single node RAID protection

i heard of Avamar single node 3.3TB is using RAID 5. is there any data protection besides RAID?

also it's very rare case, last week, one of our Dell Server failed, and is also RAID 5.

so, i'm afraid if more than 1 disk failed, our backup data will lost

It is a requirement that a single node should be replicated to another Avamar system.

Replicaiton will mean that if the RAID has issues no data will be lost.

Dingding,

replication is the best way but there is also possibilities for ATO.
ATO is a shell script used to perform rehydrated tape out operation from an Avamar system to an external tape solution.
It is supported solution whereby customer may open an SR against it and obtain technical assistance related with its use .

cheers,

There is new and Good news on this front.

On November 7, 2012, EMC has announced a new Product line "Avamar Business Edition". This offering does not require replication.

You can find out more details about this offering at this link:

I am currently researching the question of the replication requirement, and here is the best official statement I've found so far. Page 16 of the Avamar Data Store Gen4 Single Node Customer Installation Guide lists "All non-RAIN systems must be replicated" as a fundamental Avamar principle
