I have m1000e chassis and m420 server. Some of my m420 servers won't turn on. It says idrac booting on the chassis screen and when I say power on from the cmc panel, I get an iDRAC Not Ready error. What is the solution ? Can idrac firmware update be done without turning on the blade? Thanks in advance.
You can update iDRAC without powering on the blade. As you are seeing iDRAC Not Ready error there is high chance iDRAC FW update also fail.
You can first try iDRAC reset and see whether the issue go away with that.
If not you can try remove and insert the blade and see whether you are seeing the same error. You can try the same remotely using virtual reseat feature from CMC.
Steps on doing iDRAC reset and Server Virtual reseat are available in below link
I tried what you said and everything on the link. It didn't work.
I also have a force10 mxl 10 / 40gbe network card in my chassis. I give ip from my CMC panel and it is pinging, but how can I access its console? I could not find any documents on how to intenret the blades. Couldn't fix my iDRAC problem I guess I'll buy H310e raid card.
You can try using SSH into the iDRAC of the server which is having the issue, and run a RACADM RACRESET, to soft reset the iDRAC and see if the server is able to turn on via CMC. Alternative, you may need to do a hard reset. Here's the reference: https://dell.to/34touZG
As for the switch, you can access to the switch console via SSH to the switch IP or SSH into CMC and run the command, X would which ever your switch slot is racadm connect -m switch-X.
I'm unsure what you mean by if you couldn't fix the iDRAC you buy a H310e RAID controller.
Let me know how it goes.
