can user refer a different server when trying to map a network drive?

By pointing nas 4 to the same file system as nas 5 should have impact on other users accessing the network path

\\nas4\usr4$\. Correct me if i am wrong .

If that is not the case , how can i point nas5 and nas 4 to same file system?

Sorry this was confusing, I will rephrase it in the main question.

I have customer mapping to \\nas5\usr4$\folder1 , now , he wants to map it this way to:  \\nas4\usr4$\folder1

nas5 and nas 4 are two different servers and are hosting shares ( in production use)

In short, Instead of mapping to  \\nas5\usr4$\folder1 he wants to map to \\nas4\usr4$\folder1

so you want nas4 and nas5 point to the same file system ?

you could have your network team create an alias to server2 ..where server2 and server4 point to the same ip address. Is that what you want ?

let me step back and ask you what are you trying to accomplish and why ?

My customer posed this question to me . He wanted to check if that is at all possible.

Its a production , so i don't want to experiment it . I want to know if you have tried this before and its safe so that i  can use it in my environment.

i've never done it so i can't comment.  If i were you i would simply ask my network guys to create a CNAME for NAS4  in DNS and point it to the ip address of NAS5.
