Celerra CIFS and Mac OS X support

Each introduction of Mac OS X brings about a new round of interoptability issues with DART.  Usually, these issues are mitigated pretty quickly, but some of them take fixes from Apple and other vendors to bring about resolution.

For starters, see if Primus emc236218 applies to your case.  You should also take a look at the E-Lab Navigator, which will give specific versions of Mac OS X that are tested/qualified with specific versions of DART.  If you haven't done so, you should consider upgrading to a new DART release of 6.0, if you're on an older release.

Thanks Karl.  It doesn't look like  emc236218 is the issue.  The users can access the files without issue.  As far as I know, they're complaining about folder open times.  The NS-480 is at DART 6.0 (6.0.40-8).  E-Lab Navigator will be a bit of a challenge as I don't have access to the Macs in question but I'll see what I can do.  Thanks again!

I have a Celerra exposing CIFS within my network, and we are also experiencing painfully slow folder-open times when operating Mac devices. Windows users are unaffected.

Thats the way the MAC Finder is working:

“The Mac Finder requires consistent and complete views of metadata before displaying files. For directories with

hundreds or thousands of objects, the Mac takes much longer than a comparable Windows computer to display a

directory over SMB. This is because the Finder typically does not display objects until it has retrieved all metadata for all files in the directory.”

Fully concur with Peter.

I have experienced this Mac Finder behaviour is the same for other non-EMC NAS storage.It is one of the troubling things when you have to switch between MacOS and Windows.

It seems that the issue may have been related to the CIFS client in the MacOS 10.6 (and prior releases).  Though the complaints were sporatic, they seemed to dry up as users upgraded to 10.7 (which had a major CIFS client re-write) and 10.8.
