Celerra NSX with two DMX1000 backend

Hi,

We have an Celerra NSX with two DMX1000 backends. Both DMXs are fully populated. What are pros and cons of extending a file system that will span two backends? Note that both backends use the same storage pool.

Thanks,

David

Oh...and note you can have up to 4 backends behind one Celerra gateway, so adding another one is the best approach.

Hi,

there are no pros, and the cons are mostly regarding consistency/availability/performance.

If you have a problem on only one backend, part of the file system would be affected, causing corruption. This is the major reason why we avoid to span a file system between different storage systems.

Also, if one DMX is more overloaded than the other, part of your file system will be impacted, wich is very difficult to troubleshoot.
