you have multiple options to backup data on Celerra: backup to tape/vtl with your favorite backup application, backup to disk using Avamar accelerator.

It depends

First you have two options on the backup technology – NDMP or LAN (CIFS/NFS) based

NDMP is faster but needs Backup Software that can speak NDMP and typically an extra license on the backup software

This enables you to do “LAN free” backup directly to an attached Fibre-Channel tape

Also you can only restore to the same storage type (i.e. another Celerra)

LAN based backup should work with every backup software that can backup network shares.

It doesn’t backup multi-protocol, takes up network bandwidth and is typically slower

Then it depends on which backup device (direct attached tape, remote tape, VTL, …)

My backup system is composed by a NetBackup master server to which is attached a Sun tape library. My current goal is to backup an EMC Celerra NS120 file server. I'm trying configuring NDMP backup to NetBackup media server (remote NDMP). I'm encountering problem in authorizing NetBackup access to the NDMP host. I get this message when try to add a NDMP host:

Maybe it's caused by a missing configuration credentials on the Celerra or this latter doesn't recognize the NetBackup master server.

did you create ndmp account on the datamover (with md5 parameter). Also do you point NetBackup to ip address of the datamover, not control station ?
