How to move a CIFS Server from vdm to vdm
I would like to know if there are any procedures to move CIFS Servers from a vdm to anther. The emc article emc170111 does not help me in this case. The problem is some one accidently provisoined a new CIFS server (CAAPPSQL7) on an existing vdm31 with an old CIFS server (CAAPPSQL2) already present in it. The vdm31 and filesystems of CAAPPSQL2 servers are on Replicator v2 setup to DR Celerra. The old CIFS Server team needs to failvoer to DR Celerra for some testing and for that I have to failover the vdm31 and Filesystems to DR Celerra which will cause issues with new CIFS Server since it resides on the same vdm31.
Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for your help.

I don't think there is a way of doing that. When a CIFS server is created it is created on VDM or a DM. To move it to another VDM it would require you to delete the cifs server and recreate it on the new VDM. Just treat it like a migration.

Hi,
please, refer to emc218289 "How to move a VDM from one physical Data Mover to another with active replications".
It was created using physical DM's, but it should work for VDM's also....

emc218289 is to move a vdm from a DM to antoher DM with replication and I this is not I'm looking for. What I'm looking for is to move a CIFS server from vdm31 to a newly created vdm32 in same datamover or may be on a different datamover with its share with minimal downtime.

I am sorry for the confusion...my mistake.
You could open a ticket to see if the tech support can do this.

Check out emc170111 - It involves moving a CIFS server from a physical datamover to a virtual one, but the process may be transportable to going from VDM to VDM.

Move CIFS from VDM to VDM - above mentioned primus is not possible. It will throw out following error
Command failed: : cifs move compname=testCIFS vdmid=<>
I am also looking for solution on this....

Yes this "emc170111" may work!
*****
But if you get error like this
Command failed: : cifs move compname=testCIFS vdmid=<>
Refer primus "emc172914". It is happening due to conflict in CIFS ID in same DB localgroup file; due to which itis not allowing you to move.

We have a VDM with 10 CIFS server and wanted to move it its own VDM.
Any idea why I am not seeing the server_cifs move option in my Celerra? Is it supported with some version of DART ?

Thanks for your response.
Yes we have poc environment to try this. But the pblm is that the Option move is not available.
Do you know if it is suppported in DART 6.0.x version.

Most likely because its an undocumented option that is only meant for support and professional services
Please work with your local EMC team to get a procedure for your config

It has been there for a long time – since DART 5.2 I think
Please read the knowledgebase articles carefully – it is a hidden option

The knowledgebase articles mentioned above document the steps
You need to however understand the prerequisites
If you are not sure - involve support or professional services
I would also suggest to at least test it on a non-production CIFS server or even a Simulator first
