I have about 5 mac clients that I want to migrate to our Celerra. The clients are running OS X 10.6.7, and the Celerra is running 6.0.40-5. Is it best practice to use NFS or CIFS to connect the macs to the Celerra? All of the users have AD accounts; and I already have a CIFS server for my windows clients.
the latest mac os I see listed in eLab Navigator is 10.6.6. We have some mac 10.6.7 clients hitting dart 5.6.45.5 and we have inconsistent results coping files from the mac client to the celerra.
Sometimes the folder does copy over however it is grayed out and non-accessible. If the folder is compressed as a .SIT file then it copies just fine.
I'll second these comments. Apple seems to change code in key components with each and every release. For the last four years, I've had to plan for a DART upgrade following the release of 10.3, 10.4, 10.5, 10.6 and now 10.7. In each case, Apple's changes in the CIFS code (I'm talking about Apple's additional changes and Finder integration, not SAMBA) has always resulted in incompatability or strange behavior on our Celerras. I know what it's like to have a small staff, but if you have Mac users who will run the latest-and-greatest from Apple, you'll have to plan for it.
We had users on 10.7 connecting to our Celerra the day the pre-release beta was available. It was dumb luck they didn't manage to crash the thing (search Powerlink for this - you'll get a chuckle). Plan for updates when new Mac OS release come out, or you risk problems like the 10.7 beta.

we let Mac clients connect via CIFS and utilize standard AD authentication.
