Missing Objects from Celerra SMI-S Profile

Hi All,

The following objects are not available using SMI-S but using XML API interface they are available

  1. Quotas
  2. Check Points
  3. Check Point Schedules
  4. Mount Points
  5. Dedupe settings
  6. iSCSI Luns

The SMI-S document posted on the forum (SMI-S_Provider_Programming_Guide.pdf) doesn't have any details regarding the above listed objects.

Even under limitation section of the attached document it was not mentioned whether the above objects are available using SMI-S or not.

Can we get a detailed SMI-S document and MOF files to be able to program using SMI-S?

Thanks,

Abishek

    Hi Rainer,

    Thanks for your reply.

Using the EMC Unisphere i am able to view the different objects like Checkpoints, Dedupe settings, iSCSI luns etc but i am not finding a way to retrieve them using the SMI-S.

Is there a way to retrieve these details using SMI-S?

    Thanks

What are you planning to use the SMI-S API for ?

Are you writing our using 3rd party software ?

    Hi Rainer,

We are evaluating SMI-S as an interface to query EMC Celerra for storage reporting.

    Thanks,

    Hi,

Moved the current discussion from Unified Storage to Celerra Support Forum.

Probably all discussions related to Celerra must be moved to Celerra Forum so that there will not be any confusion.

    Thanks,

    Abishek

Whats described in the SMI-S programmers manual is whats implemented.

I think the items you mentioned arent part of the SNIA nashead profile so they werent implemented.

    Hi Rainer,

    Thanks for the reply.

I verified that the NAS Head profile lists the following but they are marked to be Optional.

    Filesystem Performance      SNIA 1.4.0 Optional

    FileSystem Quotas             SNIA 1.4.0 Optional

File System Copy Services  SNIA 1.4.0 Optional

FC Initiator Ports                 SNIA 1.4.0 Optional

Any ideas if these profiles would be added in the upcoming releases of Celerra SMI-S?

This information would help us take a decision on using XML / SMI-S to query Celerra for reporting

    Thanks,

    Abishek

I wouldn't count on it and use what's available now.
