Leap second issue with G4 nodes
I recieved a ETA from EMC a week or so ago regarding the Avamar G4 nodes and an identified issue with the SUSE Linux version they are running. I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on why we did not recieve a similar notice regarding Centera G4 nodes since they also run Suse Linux..

Hi Thomas,
Could you let me know the issue regarding which you've received the ETA. Moreover I believe that SUSE Linux was introduced for the first time in Avamar G4 nodes only, hence there might be issues in Avamar nodes which might have already been fixed in Centera earlier.

Hi Satish
Below is the ETA header and a little snip from the body of the ETA. My understanding is that as of V 4.0 the Centera nodes were transitioned from Redhat LINUX to SUSE Linux hence the question is this an issue for Centera G4 nodes as well.
EMC Technical Advisory esg129958: Avamar Data Store, Avamar Server: Avamar Gen4 Nodes may experience degraded performance or go offline related to June 30th 2012 Leap Second UTC adjustment.
Affected Environments
Avamar Data Store Gen4 systems running SuSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) that have not been power-cycled since the leap second event. This includes multi-node servers, single-node servers, NDMP accelerator nodes, and Extended Retention media access nodes.
Thank You
Thom

This will not affect Centera.
Centera has an internal date/time set on all nodes in the cluster at the time the Centera is installed. Nodes synchronize time from a master node on the Centera. This is internal to the Centera only unless NTP is enabled in which case Centera is synchronized to external NTP servers. Time adjustments are incremented via NTP thus there is no impact to Centera for leap second adjustments.

Agree with Dennis, However please note, some integrated Applications Servers are unable to handle writes to Centera when cluster time/date is 29th February, It is scheduled to be Resolved in future releases of Centrastar.

And, if you wish to try out with NTP settings:https://community.emc.com/docs/DOC-10320

Hi Thomas,
As informed earlier the issue is only with Avamar nodes and will not affect Centera Nodes.
