adding more DAEs on the existing CX3-80

Hi there,
I have a CX3-80 with 22 DAEs with 15 drives on each DAE. would like to add anohter 5 DAEs. just wondering if this SPs will be able to handle additional drives and RAID groups and LUNs without any performance issues. I believe it should be OK. please advise.

Theoretically you could go all the way to having 480 drives, but best practice is to stay around 75%. But that is an average.....

BUT in all cases the main rule is: IT DEPENDS

How heavy is your load ? If your hosts "don't do much", you can probably go to a higher number of disks than if you have a lot of heavy duty databases.

Rob made the key point here: it depends.

The CLARiiON Best Practices for Fibre Channel Storage document on Powerlink discusses this subject a little bit. The main point being that as you add more disks to a system you will reach a point where the performance will plateau and the performance can begin to decrease.

That being said, I have a Cx3-80 with 31 enclosures on it and will probably add the 32nd enclosure soon. The system has been performing admirably with that amount of disks on it. There are only 25 hosts on the array, mostly SQL servers, and only a few of them are heavy i/o hosts. The rest or low to mid performance hosts. It has been running like this for about a year now and I have had no performance issues with any of the hosts.
