Attach a host to CX500

W2K000 server; Emulex Lpe10000 card.
Card is installed, cable connected and green lights all around.
I have Navisphere installed on the server. However, when I try Connect Host I get an error stating that it's either not managed or not connected to the CX500; both of which it is.
Do I have to go into Connectivity Status and add the emulex there?

My first question would be this:

Are you direct connected or through an FC switch (or switches)?

If connected through a switch, have you double checked the zoning?

From the host you can run the elxcfg utility and see if it sees the CX500 connected as well.

1. Check in Connectivity Status to ensure that the host is logged in and registered on all zoned paths (the icon will be blue if both conditions are meet - once you add host to Storage Group, icon will turn green).

2. Highlight one of the paths and click on INFO button - check that the IP address and host name are correct.

3. Does your host have more than one NIC - if so, please see KnowledgeBase article emc66921 - you will have to add a text file called agentID.txt (note that the ID is upper case) - this file will be read each time Agent is started and use the data in the file to use the correct host name and use the NIC that you want to use to communicate to the SPs with.

4. In the agent.config file, have you added the two lines for SPA and SPB? should look like this:

user system@IP_Address_SPA
user system@IP_Address_SPB

5. Have you checked the "EMC CLARiiON Host Connectivity Guide for Windows"

It is connected thru McData 16 port switch and no, I don't know if the zoning is correct. I can't find a tool to check the zoning. The port I plugged it into was an unused port.

What's the model of your switch?

You need to browse to the ip address of the switch. Do you know your login?

The default is "Administrator" (case sensitive) and the password is "password".

You have to create a zone that includes your HBAs port WWN and the port WWNs of the Clariion. This zone will then need to be added to the zone-set and then activated. If your are not familiar with this then I would suggest getting EMC support to walk you through it.
