ax4-5 and vmware desktop
i am quite new to virtualization and i wanted to use wmware desktop inside one of our servers that are connected with an AX4-5 SP via iSCSI to test.
The half parts of the port (A0 A1) are connected to two switches for redundancy and there are 4 servers connected.
I have added two adapters in the virtual machine and manually given two new ip address for the storage 192.168.1.105 192.168.2.105 ( the storage is ....100 and the physical servers are ....101 ...102 ....103 .....104)
As it does not work, from where should I read documentation?
...and could it work with VM desktop, or it works only with ESX?
thanks

VMware workstation ? As long as your VM network adapter can communicate to AX SPs ..you should be able to use software initiator inside of your VMs (does not matter if it’s ESX or VMware workstation)

in fact the virtual ethernet cards do not communicate with the SP...
I have added the two VM adapters as bridged, so I have 3 ethernet adapters bridged in total, one on the internal network 10.x.x.x and two for the san 192.168..x.y.
the fact is that I do not khow how to move next.
the iscsi initiator in the VM does not find the adapters, navisphere does not ping
thanks for a line to follow

make sure that you bind correct physical adapters of the physical box to virtual adapters in your VM and assign IP address/mask/gateway on the correct network. From the VM you should be able to ping AX SPs (if there is no firewall in-between). You also might have to set static routes within your VM so it knows which gateway to use when talking to specific network.

I would recommend that the iSCSI address on the AX4 not use the 192.168.1.x range - the array uses some of these addresses internally and you might get a conflict.

thanks very much , I will try friday the solution adviced by dynamox, but for changing the ip of the clarion...I will do after august...there is too risk with the holidays so near...
bye
done the first step: I can ping the physical and the virtual adapters, as well as the ax4.
BUT when I try to configure iSCSI I get the error "Connection failed" on the Add target portal operation...
