Can't access Navisphere on CX400
We recently acquired an old Dell/EMC CX400 from another lab in our organization, and are hoping to put it to use. This CX400, consists of 3 enclosures with all but 4 of the drives present. The system was not operational when we got it, as it was sitting in a back room on a table and one enclosure had all its drives removed. After cleaning out some of the dust and putting in a rack we tried to start it up. Initially we were able to discover its IPs and access the network configuration screens, and were able to determine that it was running Flare 2.05. and when we tried to access it via the Navisphere interface, all we got on the screen was the "Navisphere 6.0" line in the upper left of the web page, with no other information. Coincidentaly Dell was here setting up our new CX4-240 and we asked the engineer to take a look at the CX400 when he was done. To make a long story short, after several hours of restarts, we got no further with the CX400. We have since tried to update the Flare to FLARE.02.07.400.5.003, which appeared to net us the same results up unitl yesterday when the CX400 stopped even giving us the Navisphere 6.0 screen, or access to the network configuration screen, even using the ppp connection via null-modem. Both SPA and SPB respond to pings. I can monitor its bootup via a hyperterm session, and can access the utility boot partition.
Any suggestions on what to try next.
Thanks,
Walt

Hi Walt,
To start from scratch I would recommend installing FLARE code 19 patch 45 (02.19.400.5.045) which is the latest supported FLARE Code for a CX400. This code has the Management UI capabilities and does not require an additional license for Navisphere Manager.
Thanks

Sorry to say but this may be beyond the scope of this forum - at a guess, you probably will need to re-image the vault drives - loading the restore images from the fifth vault drive - to do this will require the Service Procedure Generator - unless you are a partner you will not have access to this. This is something that normally requires a service call - the Dell tech should be able to do this for you.

Walt, as Glen has stated...this is probably beyond the scope of the forum...
But if i had to guess, due to the old code you found running (and it is OLD) it is likely that the Management UI package is not loaded on this array.
The realy old codes did not always come with the UI package loaded, so you would not be able to use navi manager.
You could try to use off array to manage it via a GUI, or better still use navicli.
For the GUI to work you need to have both of these following packages loaded and active -
Name of the software package: ManagementServer
Active State: YES
Name of the software package: ManagementUI
Active State: YES
It is likely that you do not have the management UI package.
At the time this was a chargeable option to have on an array.
Off array supplied these 2 components and was free, but this meant that you could not just manage the array from anywhere, but you would need to install both off array components on every workstation you want to manage the array from.
NOTE: you may also need the Navisphere Manager UI enabler, but i cannot recall if this was true for that rev of flare code..
NOTE: I can also not be sure if the ndu conmmand existed in the really old versions of navicli, as i think it was only available in R24 and above (when we started using naviseccli) so dont be surprised if when you run the command it comes back with "not supported"

Sadik,
For some reason, everytime I try to access the link you posted for the FLARE code file, I get a time-out error. Is there another location I can pull the file from?

Are you a partner? you might not be able to access the FLARE code if you are not a partner

Depending on how much it means to you .... You could order a vault pack from Sales and the array would come up with out much effort ... Not sure how much that costs.
