chkdsk error

Question

I have a a lun connected to my NAS server which is reporting an error and informing me to run chkdsk. should I have to run this volum connected to my array?

is it running straight up windows 2003/8 or is it running some vendor NAS software (Netwin ?)

It is running Windows 2003 r2, purchased from Dell to be our NAS head. I called Dell and they said to to running it on the volume
