CX3-80 and failover modes

Greetings,

Just wondering if anyone else out there is running AIX and Veritas/Symantec with DMP on CX3-80s. We seem to have a unique set if issues and much difficulty getting support from both EMC and Symantec.
If you are, what sorts of problems - and more importantly - what sort of solutions are you encountering in your environment?
Thanks In Advance,

Julianne

If you are using Veritas DMP for failover then you need to make sure that your failover mode set to 2 for each server's HBA connection into the Storage Group.

You can use the "Failover Setup Wizard" or the "Group Edit" feature under Connectivity status to resolve this.

The only other 2 issues I can recall are the first time this was setup on the Clariion the failover mode was not set to 2 which caused some issues. The only other issue I can recall ended-up being an issue with a required patch need for the Veritas software itself.

Actually, according to Veritas engineering - for 5.0 the failover mode needs to be set to 1.
We have had a ton of problems in this environment since getting the new CX3-80 array. It turns out that Symantec/Veritas only tested and approved 5.0 on CX3-80 with failover mode 1.
EMC still claims it should be failover mode 2.
Obviously a stalemate - we're working with the vendors to get the issues resolved. Right now, we have three systems stabilized. Those are the AIX systems with failover mode set to 1.
So, my question still remains - what AIX/Veritas/DMP environments are out there?
Anyone?

Woops - sorry about that I missed the AIX part. We are running RedHat Linux and Veritas :(

Greetings Julianne,
I have several AIX systems connected to Cx700s and Cx3-80. The Flarecode on the CX700 is 19 and the Cx3-80 is running 24.

When I configured my 5.3 AIX system using EMC Failover mode 1 with VCS 5 MP1 using DMP my server crashed when I tested failover. I simulated a sp failure by going into engineering mode and disabled the initiator path to the active storage processor.
If you plan on trying the above, use a test system.

When I installed powerpath, my data disks which have VCS fencing enabled would not import. VCS can no longer import the disk group.

I am working with Veritas and EMC support on this issue.

Please see Knowledgebase article emc99467 for correct failover mode settings.

Also see article emc127913 and 133661 for Veritas configuration settings

Glen, I do want to thank you referencing emc127913 and 133661. I will check these out once they become available to me.
Thank -Tim

I was using emc99467.
That is where I got the info for Failover mode. emc99467 clearly states Veritas VxVM 5.0 or Later: failovermode MUST be set to 1. This setting crashed my server when I tested failover with DMP.
I could not open emc127913 or emc133661. I get errors, but those technotes look like they apply to Solaris. AIX is a different animal.
Regard
Tim
