CX300 adding another DAE
We have a CX300 with a full tray of 146 GB Fiber Channel drives. We have aquired another DAE that has 9 300 GB drives (1 is to be a spare). When we add the new DAE, I have been told we dont have to shut anything down and that the new DAE will be recognized after powering it up and the new drives will be seen as 300 GB drives and I can tell it which one is the spare for this DAE. I cant find any documentation on this and want to make sure this is how it will work..Can someone help me out?

If you are adding the new DAE yourself, then you should use the Navisphere Taskbar. It will step you thru the installation. The important thing is to set the enclosure ID on the back of the DAE before you attach the backend cables. It will check to make sure you have the correct FLARE version to support the DAE and the new drives.
When the new DAE is added to the system, you will then be able to go in and assign one of the drives as a hot spare. One thing that i do when i see a DAE that is not fully populated with drives is that i will take one of thoese drives that will be used at the hot spare and place it in slot 14. You don't have to do that but it is easier to keep track of which drives are your hotspares.
Also, adding the DAE does not require any systems downtime for the CX300 or your connected hosts. Just use the Navisphere taskbar and you should be fine.

You should also check which version of Flare that is running on the array and if that version supports the new disks that you're installing.
