CX300 - how to change storage processor IP/subnet/gateway/name

Hi,

I would like to move Clariion CX-300 to another subnet.

Do I need to "destroy security and domain information" from SP /setup page ? If so, what needs to be done to after that to reinitialize the system ?

OR

Can I simply change  IP, subnet, gateway & name  from SP /setup ?

Please provide the steps if possible..I am new to CLARiiON and haven't done this before.

I've not seen that error before - if the PPTP connection is set up correctly and the laptop is configured correctly, it should work. Have you tried the other SP?

Glen,

I tried both SP-A & SP-B but got the same error message...

However, I was able to get it to work .....

Used these steps:

[1] Connected CAT-5 between my laptop and the management Lan port on SP-A

[2] Network connections > Properties >  TCP/IP Properties and select  “use the following IP and DNS server option.

  • ip address: 10.75.212.A (clariion is using 10.75.212.B)

  • subnet mask: same as the one on the SP

  • default gateway - leave blank

  • dns server entries - leave blank

I changed the properties through SP-A/setup. And now I can ping both the SPs

I am not sure if you have suggested the same solution earlier. If you did, sorry I missed your point :-)

SO, coming back to my original question..

Now we would like to migrate this array to another subnet..

Question is, can I use the same method again once we disconnect the SP management LAN ports from the current network switch ? AFAIk, the ip remain on the processor. correct ?

OR

Do I need to have a complete access through pptp ?

You do not need to use the serial port if you have network connection - typeically we use the network and the serial port is a last resort. As long as you can connect to the management ports and get to the /setup page you can change the array's IP addresses.

You will access SPA first - /setup - change IP address and subnet and gateway, then apply - this will cause SPA to reboot. SPA now has new IP stuff - unless you change your laptop, you can not access it. Make changes to SPB first.

Then do the same for SPB - again SPB will reboot. Now SPB has new IP stuff and knows that SPA was changed, but SPA still has the old IP stuff for SPB

Then you need one more reboot on SPA to get SPA aware of the changes to SPB.

I also got the 777 error in the PPP connection. It's not that hard to configure the connection, not a lot you can do wrong if you follow the procedure.

In my case, the problem was the USB -> RS232 converter I used. The first laptop I used didn't have a serial port and was running Windowx XP. I have seen "funny" things with some of those USB-converters before, so I took my good old Toshiba laptop with onboard serial port. This laptop is running Windows 2000, but the PPP-configuration is pretty much the same. With the old laptop I had no problems connecting at all.

Hello.

I have the a similar issue, but I'm not expertize, so, just a question:

For connect laptop to CX300, what kind of cable is needed?

RS232 to RS232? or RJ45 to RS232!

Thanks.

On the CX300 pretty sure its a Micro-DB9 male to DB-9 female - null modem cable. There should be have a cable shipped with the array.
